Satellite Operations Engineer mf Ref. No. 1510133 Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Satellite Operations Engineer to support the operations, engineering and science activities to be undertaken as part of the Copernicus Sentinel3 routine operations at EUMETSAT. Sentinel3 is a Low Earth Orbiting mission to support services relating to the global marine and land environments, with highend accuracy and reliability in support of ocean forecasting systems and for environmental and climate monitoring. More information on the EUMETSAT Copernicus missions can be found here httpwww.eumetsat.intwebsitehomeSatellitesFutureSatellitesCopernicusSatellitesindex.html You will be integrated into the Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the Copernicus Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. Responsibilities You will be primarily assigned to the Sentinel system operations preparation and support to the Sentinel3A routine operations, covering all satellite and ground system Flight Operations System FOS Payload Data Ground Segment PDGS components aspects related to operations engineering for the platform, payload and instrument data handling, instrument parameter and onboard software maintenance, as well as FDIR and operations security aspects for the management of encryption and authentication functions. You will provide operations expertise and support to further platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on your experience and the overall team needs. Eventually, each person should be able to ensure the backup of any of the other two spacecraft operations engineers, to ensure routine operations and the first recovery actions. You will also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. You will support system and operations preparation activities for Sentinel3B and for the recurrent mission with respect to their related activities. Your tasks will typically include Support to the commissioning and routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel3B comprising Provision of operational expertise to you assigned spacecraft subsystem in particular, with support to, for example, other platform subsystems, payload instruments, onboard software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with ESA and space industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces Support to the system and operations preparation of Sentinel3 C and D satellites Provide inputs andor review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel6 development This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in February 2016. You will be based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany, but occasional travel within Europe may be necessary. Standby callout arrangements might be required. Qualifications Competencies This is a senior position, requiring significant demonstrable experience. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you shall have a demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills, with a particular emphasis on relevant subsystems of your work assignment spacecraft platform, payload or instrument Experience of at least 5 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases Experience of at least 3 years of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities Fluency in English spoken and written, as English is the working language Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage to have experience with some of the following Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, A WK Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications You should be selfmotivated and able to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision. Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills are essential and an ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions is highly desirable.
