Product Processing Operations Engineer

For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for a Product Processing Operations Engineer. Tasks and Responsibilities The tasks of the key person will include Support to routine operations involving the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems this includes Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 products and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the MSG, MTP and EPS data processing systems and the quality and availability of the MSG and MTP Level 1 and Level 2 and EPS Level 0 to Level 2 products Development and validation of procedures for operating the product generation facilities Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to data processing operations Providing standby callout support Support to the further development of the MSG and EPS data processing systems, including the specification and validation of system updates Support to the preparation of operational monitoring for future MSG and EPS spacecrafts Support for the operations preparation for future programmes, e.g. Meteosat Third Generation MTG and EUMETSAT Polar System 2nd Generation EPS 2G Participation in technical meetings Participation in formal reviews. Requirements Essentials In addition to having a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have a minimum of 3 years of experience in the operational use and quality control of geophysical data. Specifically, the key person shall have the following mandatory skills Experience in the verification and validation of operational data processing systems Experience with UNIXLinux operating systems Experience with the monitoring and reporting of near realtime geophysical data production Experience with configuration control of software and data. The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the key person must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Good communication skills are essential for the fulfilment of the tasks requiring interaction. Desirables It would be a distinct advantage for the key person to have experience with the following Imaging and sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft Programming Languages e.g. C, C and Fortran Scripting Languages e.g. Perl, Python, shell Experience with Oracle databases and SQL Spacecraft andor ground segment operations Operational use and quality control of satellite data. ATG is currently recruiting a Senior Data Processing Engineer to support the development of a payload software simulator at our clients premises in the Stuttgart area Germany. The company develops and produces travelling wave tubes for satellites and acts as a competence centre for space components and subsystems. Tasks and Responsibilities In the frame of the MTG Meteosat Third Generation program, the nextgeneration European operational geostationary meteorological satellite system a collaborative EUMETSATESA program a software simulator Payload Data Generator PDG shall be established for generating the measurement and auxiliary data from each major MTG instrument. The candidate is intended to support the EUMETSAT Ground Segment EUM GS development in particular the verification and validation of the Instrument Data Processing Facility IDPF. The scope of work will include Responsible for the Software Development of the PDG, including the analysis, coding and testing of algorithms described in textual form, andor by equations and with parameter data lists, mainly simulating the impact of the overall MTG data acquisition chain encompassing the geometric, radiometric and spectral deformations, as well as spatial resamplingremapping and data fusion functions which aim at adapting the sampling and map projection of external data to be prepared for the MTG instrument data generation Integration, Verification, Validation and Qualification of the PDG Documentation Detailed Design, Test ProceduresReports, User Manual Being able to use the Payload Data Generator PDG, e.g. for user support and training Planning, preparation and conduction of the SW development for processing prototypes and operational processors for the postEPS ground software Support to SW development for MTG subsystem simulation. Experience and Education Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or similar qualification At least 5 years of experience in software engineering Good knowledge of typical Earth Observation instruments Good image data processing skills Good software development experience with C and Python Fluent written and spoken English. The following skills would be highly desirable Good knowledge of mathematics to be able to understand algorithms Good conceptual analytical skills.
