EUMETSAT is Europes meteorological satellite agency monitoring the weather and climate from space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year We are currently looking for an experienced Data Service Software and Systems Engineer, from any Big Data Cloud Infrastructure environment, to join our international team of inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector. This role is rooted in the mission of EUMETSAT and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! EUMETSAT is opening a portfolio of new cloudbased big data services to bring users to its data and complement push data access services for timecritical data. As part of this evolution, the existing data service functions need to be progressively evolved and integrated with the new services. The Data Service Software System Engineer is responsible for the engineering, maintenance and evolution of data access functions and systems that are specific to satellite missions and provides handson support to the operations teams in charge of their exploitation. Heshe also leads their progressive integration intowith multimission cloudbased data services. Duties Manage, maintain and evolve the data access functions and software systems for operational satellite missions such as Meteosat and the EUMETSAT Polar System, including monitoring performances and resolving anomalies Provide handson expertise and support to the operations teams responsible for the exploitation of missionspecific data access functions and software systems Plan, implement and test midterm evolutions of missionspecific data access functions and software systems in response to evolving context and requirements from the operations teams and endusers, based on innovative, synergistic and cost efficient solutions achieving high service levels Lead the engineering for the midterm evolutions of the missionspecific data access functions and software systems and their development and integration intowith multimission cloudbased data services Ensure adherence to the EUMETSAT processes and standards for the development, test, deployment and maintenance of operational software systems Support the procurement of industrial support and services required to perform the above tasks Followup the software design, development and testing performed by external suppliers, including acceptance of deliveries, and manage all other technical aspects of contracts. Skills and Experience Software Development or System Engineering Background Proven experience in the specification, development, verification, validation and maintenance of operational software systems and services, preferably for data access and distribution software systems Applied knowledge of formal system service development, verification and validation standards using CC, java, scripting, web services in a UnixLinux environment, based on recognised standards and best practices e.g. ITIL Experience of high availability HA design concepts andor cloud technologies would be an advantage Excellent organisational, communication and presentation skills, proactive attitude Ability to work autonomously with a minimum of supervision under high workloads. Main Responsibilities The below range of support tasks are required Validation of designs by means of simulation techniques e.g. Matlab, SystemC and simulations at electricalboard level. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate must bring Experience in equipment procurement, subsystems integration and testing Extensive knowledge of intrasatellite communication protocols Mil1553, CAN, SpaceWire. Master Degree in a relevant field Knowledge of CCSDS communication protocols and related standards Deep knowledge of data handling functions and their implementation. Understanding of electrical satellite systems architectures Experience in spacecraft project support in particular related to spacecraft data handling, onboard data interfaces, associated protocols and system level validation. Ability to work in an autonomous manner, in particular when providing support to projects with high time allocations and this in coordination with the line manager.
