The post holder will report to the Head of Section and, within the technical fields described above, the main tasks and responsibilities will include providing technical support to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of platform and payload data handling systems throughout all project phases participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and the evaluation of procurement proposals identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agencys technology programmes defining, initiating and supporting RD activities covering both long and shortterm needs fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, with an emphasis on innovative concepts, cuttingedge technologies and system architectures laboratory activities, as required monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining stateoftheart expertise contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. Successful Candidate Master or PhD in electronics, networks, telecommunications or a related field is required. At least 5 years of professional experience in the fields of space hardware related to platform and payload data handling equipment units, modules and boards. This includes the ability to design, review and simulate analogue and digital electronics for data handling units use of FPGAprocessorsmicrocontrollers, singlepointfailurefree circuitry, failure containment techniques and use of COTS with radiation mitigation techniques. Knowledge in the following fields will be considered as asset Design and Use of Data Handling Electrical Ground Support Equipment EGSE Design, validation and verification of AIML Processing Algorithm inferred on HWSW platforms Design of electronic boards for radiation testing of analogue and digital circuitry based on COTS. For our customer, ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Data Systems Management Software Engineer to support the technical management and operation of their data systems used for the operations of Earth Observation space missions. Responsibilities As a Mission Data Systems Software Engineer your responsibilities will be related to the technical management of the mission data systems used for spacecraft operations, which include Mission Control Systems MCS, Mission Planning Systems, Operational Simulators, Service Provision Data Centre system and advanced software applications. You may also be assigned responsibility and perform activities for additional projects and activities within the scope of overall Mission Data Systems services. Position Reference 754 We are currently looking for a Data Processing Systems and Applications Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. You will have the opportunity to assist in the engineering activities of the data processing systems and application software for the operational and future programmes within the DPSA CA, including Processing Frameworks. Tasks and Activities Your tasks will include day to day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades and configuration changes for these facilities. Tasks will also contain the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures. For procurements and maintenance services provided externally, you will provide support to the management of the technical interface with the external contractors. Besides the above described routine tasks, you will also be expected to contribute to requirements specification, design and system engineeringreengineering, development and testing activities in the field of science data processing that will become necessary for existing and future production systems. The tasks will include Maintenance and development of the Data Processing SystemsApplication Software it should be noted that for many of the facilities the first line maintenance is being performed by EUMETSAT in conjunction with the industrial contractor the second line maintenance is being performed by the industrial contractor under supervision and with support from EUMETSAT. Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification Participation in relevant Anomaly Review Boards Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies Contribute to Configuration Management change control practices Contribute to building and distribution of application software releases and patches Verification of correct facility installation for the assigned facilities Contribute to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Perform SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory Masters Degree in the relevant discipline. Significant experience in engineering of large, UNIX or LINUX based, complex, realtime data processing systems, including requirements specification, design, software maintenance or development, formal software testing and system integration. Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures. Significant experience with Source code control systems e.g. Subversion, Git. Significant experience in software anomalies analysis, debugging, profiling, fixing and processing. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience with operating systems and application software upgrades andor porting to new platforms. Experience with Objectoriented software design, implementation, and maintenance, including the use of UMLSysML based tools for supportingdocumenting the design, at least at the architectural level.
