Xiaomi launches Redmi Note 8 Pro with 64 MP camera from EUR 175

(Telecompaper) Xiaomi has unveiled in China the latest smartphones in its popular Redmi series, the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro. The company said the Note 8 Pro is the world's first officially announced smartphone with a 64 MP camera, using Samsung's GW1 64MP sensor. It also features a 6.5-inch 1080p screen, MediaTek's latest Helio G90T chipset and a quad-camera setup including the 64 MP primary camera and a 20 MP front-facing camera. The battery is 4,500 mAh and the phone has 6/8 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of storage.

Qualcomm fined EUR 242 mln by EU for predatory pricing of 3G chips

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm has received another fine from the EU for competition violations. In a long-running investigation going back ten years, the European Commission fined the company EUR 242 million for abusing its market dominance in 3G baseband chipsets. Qualcomm said it would appeal the decision.

Vivacom goes on sale, could be worth about EUR 1.2 billion - report

(Telecompaper) Bulgarian telecoms operator Vivacom has been put up for sale with Lazards appointed as broker, according to a report on the Financial Times website. A source told the FT that Vivacom could be worth about EUR 1.2 billion. Spas Roussev, who owns 46 percent of VivaCom, confirmed that it is for sale, it added.

GTT buys KPN's international network for EUR 50 mln

(Telecompaper) Dutch operator KPN has agreed to sell its international network to GTT Communications for EUR 50 million excluding cash and debt. The transaction includes the sale of international fibre assets and network points of presence (POPs) in 21 countries.

German authority fines Facebook EUR 2 mln for incomplete report on illegal content

(Telecompaper) The German Federal Office of Justice (BfJ) has imposed a fine of EUR 2 million on Facebook for failing to list all the complaints concerning illegal content in its transparency report for the first half year of 2018.
