Telefonica sells Guatemala, El Salvador units to America Movil for EUR 570 mln

(Telecompaper) America Movil has announced a deal to acquire Guatemala and El Salvador operations from Telefonica for a total of EUR 570 million. In a short statement, the Mexican telecommunications giant said it paid EUR 293 million for 100 percent of Telefonica's Guatemalan assets and EUR 277 million for 99.3 percent of Telefonica El Salvador. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval for the El Salvador deal. It added that the acquisitions will boost its position in Central America, where it plans to provide next-generation services including 5G.

TomTom sells Telematics to Bridgestone for EUR 910 mln

(Telecompaper) TomTom has sold its Telematics division to tire manufacturer Bridgestone for EUR 910 million. Of the total, EUR 750 million will be distributed to shareholders by means of a capital repayment, as well as by share consolidation. The capital repayment will not be subject to Dutch dividend withholding tax. The sale is expected to close by the end of the second quarter, followed by the execution of the capital repayment and share consolidation in the third quarter.

French data protection agency fines Google EUR 50 million for GDPR breach

(Telecompaper) France's data protection watchdog Cnil has issued Google with a EUR 50 million fine following an inquiry prompted by complaints filed in May 2018 by two non-profit organizations. The investigation was carried out in September 2018, in response to two separate complaints from French consumer rights association La Quadrature du Net and data protection group NOYB (None of your business), led by Max Schrems.

Iliad acquires majority stake in Jaguar Network for nearly EUR 100 million

(Telecompaper) Iliad announced that it has acquired a 75 percent stake in French data centre and cloud services operator Jaguar Network. Private equity firm Naxicap sold its interest to Iliad as part of a deal facilitated by Jaguar Network's founder, Kevin Polizzi, who retains the remaining 25 percent stake and will stay at the company as CEO. Iliad said that it purchased the majority stake based on a multiple of 10.6x EBITDA, representing an investment of just under EUR 100 million.

T-Systems hands mainframe services over to IBM in deal worth EUR 860 mln - report

(Telecompaper) Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Systems is handing its mainframe services over to IBM, reports Handelsblatt. In May, 400 employees in six countries will join the US IT company, according to an internal statement seen by the newspaper. T-Systems stated officially that the transaction was not a sale of the business unit, the website Golem.de reported.
