Job Description We are looking for an OnBoard and Payload Data Processing Engineer on behalf of the European Space Agency ESA for their location in Noordwijk The Netherlands, to join their RF Digital Equipment Payload Data Processing Section. Please note, the successful candidate will be employed by ATG Europe and not by ESA. The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to Tasks and Responsibilities TASKS PROFILE 1 RF Instrument Data Processing Engineer A diverse range of support tasks is required to be carried out, encompassing algorithmic and hardware definition, development and validation, involving software, hardware and system constraints Design, development and performance evaluation and characterization of control, data and signal processing units for Radio Frequency payloads and instruments Definition, design, development, performance evaluation and verification of data and signal processing functions and algorithms via simulation techniques e.g. Matlab, Python, prototyping SW Design, verification and validation of payload data and signal processing chains Hardware software optimization and implementation of payload data processing functions on processors e.g. uCuP, DSP, GPU, AI accelerators and FPGA e.g. MPSoC, RfSoC based platforms Radio Frequency payloads instruments related ASICs and device specification validation Specific engineering support in the above domains to mainstream ESA space projects, mainly for but not restricted to the development and testing phases. TASKS PROFILE 2 Optical Instrument Image Processing Engineer A diverse range of support tasks is required to be carried out, encompassing algorithmic definition, development and validation and involving software, hardware and system constraints. These tasks are expected to address processing functions focusing on payload performance image quality, data compressionreduction and data analysis Analysis of systemlevel needs and definition of system and subsystem requirements specifications for optical payload processing functions Definition, design, development, performance evaluation and verification of image processing functions and algorithms via simulation techniques e.g. Matlab, Python, prototyping SW Design, verification and validation of payload image processing chains in close collaboration with teams responsible for SW and HW implementation Support to HWSW optimization and implementation of payload data processing functions on processors e.g. uCuP, DSP, GPU, AI accelerators and FPGA based platforms Specific engineering support in the above domains to mainstream ESA space projects, mainly for but not restricted to the development and testing phases. Requirements REQUIREMENTS PROFILE 1 RF Instrument Data Processing Engineer Masters degree in networks, electronics, telecommunications or a related field with minimum 4 years of relevant work experience Extensive knowledge in onboard data and signal processing techniques Extensive knowledge in signal quality and onboard payload data processing functions for RF remote sensing and Telecom payloads Extensive knowledge in simulation of signal processing functions Matlab, Python, C, etc Knowledge in the design, training and validation of machine learning techniques not limited to deep learning for tasks such as prediction, classification, semantic segmentation, object detection, etc Familiarity with telecom payload processors, synthetic aperture radar, radar altimetry and radio frequency interference mitigation coverage of more than one of the topics will be a strong asset Familiarity with payload data and signal processing onboard systems architectures Familiarity with processing devices and onboard electronics design related to data acquisition and processing functions Familiarity with procurement of units, subsystems integration and testing Ability to work in an autonomous manner, in particular when providing support to projects with high time allocations and this in coordination with the line manager. REQUIREMENTS PROFILE 2 Optical Instrument Image Processing Engineer Masters degree in networks, electronics, telecommunications or a related field with minimum 4 years of relevant work experience Extensive knowledge in image processing, compression and computer vision techniques Extensive knowledge in optical imaging payloads, signalimage quality and onboard payload data processing functions Extensive knowledge in simulation of image processing functions Matlab, Python, ENVIIDL, C, etc Knowledge in the design, training and validation of machine learning techniques not limited to deep learning for tasks such as prediction, classification, semantic segmentation, object detection, etc Familiarity with computational imaging techniques image stabilization, superresolution, active optics, etc Familiarity with payload data processing onboard systems architectures Familiarity with processing devices and onboard electronics design related to data acquisition and processing functions Familiarity with procurement of demonstrator units, subsystem integration and testing Ability to work in an autonomous manner, in particular when providing support to projects with high time allocations and this in coordination with the line manager. Preparation of subsystems technical requirements specifications. Definition and justification of SS architecture, from concept to detailed design phase. Definition and control of SS technical interfaces, internal and external towards space and launch segments. Engineering budgets and SS performance. Requirements Masters degree or comparable in Aerospace Engineering. Professional experience of at least five years in Ground Segment GS engineering projects for space systems, in Phase CD as mandatory. Professional experience of at least five years in definition and design of Payload Data SS for EO systems for institutional andor commercial customers. Experience in the definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of DOORS. Experience with coordinating partners from different companies in an international project. Strong competences in design and development of EO space systems. Strong competences in the Commissioning activities with regards to calibration and validation of EO systems. Use of simulation tools for the definition of GS performances, e.g. Stk, MATLAB, IDL, Python. Proven capability to define of GS design throughout the support of model based methods, techniques and tools e.g. SysML, UML, Capella MBSE. Good experience with LabViewVee Pro and tools for automated testing, control and monitoring of RF performance. Good working knowledge of Thermal Vacuum chamberssystems is required. Objective The post will allow the successful individual to identify and support technological advances and trends within telecommunications satellites. Responsibilities Duties The successful individual can expect to be involved in Supporting the initiation of activities related to technology and product development for payload applications. Design, development andor exploitation of antenna, digital or RF units, including low noise amplifiers, channel amplifiers and linearisers, power amplifiers, frequency converters, digital signal processors Knowledge of multiple different types of payload equipment and their functions at payload level Wider knowledge of the ARTES programme and Satcom market Strong understanding of active antenna operating prinicples, as well as implementation options and challenges.
