UVNS Product Development Support Engineer 1513123 Job Description We are looking for an UVNS Product Development Support Engineer for our client EUMETSAT. Support is sought for the ongoing scientific and product development activities in preparation for the future UVNS mission to be flown on the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation. You will be part of the Remote Sensing and Products RSP Division of the Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department and will provide support as a member of the Atmospheric Composition AC Team. Your responsibilities will primarily cover the support for the generation of Level 2 data processing, product format, and auxiliary data specifications for the UVNS mission. In addition you will support the review of calibration algorithms and contribute to development activities related to Level 1 data processing software. Development of prototype software and preparation of associated documentation will be another focus area. Your main tasks will include Provision of support for the generation of Level 2 data processing, product format, and auxiliary data specifications for the UVNS mission Provision of support to the development of algorithms for the calibration of UVNS Level 0 data Development of prototype software for the purposes of testing and validation of the algorithms developed, including the generation of associated technical reports etc Analyse the constraints imposed by the implementation of the products within an operational processing environment on the algorithm and implement necessary changes Interfacing with experts across EUMETSAT as needed Collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community outside EUMETSAT as appropriate In addition you will provide support to Assessment of results from scientific studies Refinement of mission requirements in response to expert advice and results of scientific studies Scientific assessments related to requirements refinements Interaction with expert teams and the conduct of expert team meetings, Participation in reviews. The tasks will evolve as the EPSSG specifications mature in the coming years. Required Skills and Experience A University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. A solid background in software engineering. Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product retrievals, data processing, and analysis. Familiar with Level 2 retrieval algorithms, data processing, and satellite instrument characteristics in the UV to SWIR part of the spectrum. Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the optical spectrum Ultraviolet to Shortwave Infrared Familiarity with Earth observation systems in operational meteorology, atmospheric Handling and processing of remote sensing data Experience with instrument calibration and characterisation Familiarity with radiative transfer Ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. Good skills in a higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C. Experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. Desirable Skills and Experience Quality control of satellite data and products Operational product processing environments Software build environments and tools e.g. make, imake, eclipse, insure Source code control system e.g. git or SVN. Your Tasks Include The key person will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team and will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, science, and in particular members of the MTG Science and Instrument Teams. Your Profile The UVN Level 1 product development consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfill the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. Heshe shall be familiar with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular calibration and validation of moderate spectral resolution data in the UVVisibleNIR part of the spectrum. Heshe shall have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the consultant shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product data processing and analysis including at least 2 years of experience of UVVisibleNIR calibration and validation. Further the consultant shall have a solid background in software engineering.
