The successful candidate will join the Operational Products and Engineering, Space physics and Functional Validation Department. Within this department, you will participate in the development of the infrastructure for the SYSTEMA product which includes modules for modelling and behaviour analysis of a satellite subject to the space environment radiation, thermal changes, jet effect, outgassing, contamination, erosion by atomic oxygen, etc. You will closely work with a team of physicians in charge of the product strategy and of the implementation of professional calculation modules. The SYSTEMA software relies on advanced technology which enables it to respond to important issues performance, ergonomics and maintenance raised by new generations of Airbus Defence Space satellites. SYSTEMA is used at the different company sites and has been sold to a large number of international customers. You will then develop towards being responsible for one or several products and business management. You will analyse customer needs, define and perform revisions, and provide support to entry into service in France and Germany. Your creativity will allow you to be highly effective in proposing changes and in the definition of the product roadmap in this way, you will promote the teams privileged position at the hearts of numerous processes. SYSTEMA is created within a group that develops other software products using the Agile methodology. The function of the technical unit is to provide a central competence that supports the evolving needs of the business, working on space systems, satellite platforms, payloads and equipment. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include In partnership with the Project Software Production Validation Responsible engineers, define the means to be used on the project according to the constraints and development Production Validation processes. Responsibility to act as the focal point to manage the interfaces with the purchase team, IM and the traceabilityconfiguration team to identify the hardware and software platform to be purchased or reused, and hence facilitate the purchase, installation and maintenance of HW and SW platforms. Day to day technical support to resolve any SDE problems Define and monitor SDE costs, providing regular reporting to the Project Manager. Make appropriate propositions for improvements of the hardware and software platform according to feedback from projects. As directed, perform technological survey of new hardwaresoftware computing products with the main manufacturers while taking into account the improvement needs of the projects and with cooperation with the related process owners. Define benchmarking to be performed on new tools according to the possible improvements of the development process. Provide the annual balance sheet on expenditures and receipts related to the SDE costs. Participate in technical proposals by providing estimated costs to deliver maintain the appropriate software development tests means. Participate in ongoing implementation of transnational harmonisation of software tools, methods processes, or improvement actions. Spacecraft Simulator Development, Test and Validation Engineer mf The Mission Our customer, ESA, develops ground software data systems for supporting the spacecraft mission operations at its operations center, ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. ESOC requires qualified software development, test and validation engineers to support the procurement, rollout and use of operational spacecraft simulators and related spacecraft mission data systems. Such engineers support ESA staff in the process of developing and maintaining the operational systems in use, for example by supporting the definition the specifications, supporting formal validation of developed systems, and assisting end users, such as spacecraft operators, in utilizing the systems. The Challenge We are looking for a software engineer to support ESA staff with the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of operational spacecraft simulators and other ground software systems used for spacecraft operations. The systems involved are Operational Spacecraft Simulators Spacecraft Mission Control Systems and their related subsystems Mission Planning Systems Mission Automation Data Security Spacecraft Database System The main tasks and responsibilities involved are Specification of the software requirements of these systems such as operational spacecraft simulators in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Formal acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the specifications Support to the spacecraft mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaigns and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying spacecraft mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the IT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems This is a full time position, located at the customers site, ESOC in Darmstadt.
