Shower and thunderstorm activity continues to become show signs of organization this morning in association with a low pressure system located about midway between Africa and the Windward Islands. The low is gradually becoming better defined and environmental conditions are conducive for additional development, and a tropical depression could form later today or on Tuesday while the system moves westward at around 20 mph. * Formation chance through 48 hours...high...80 percent * Formation chance through 5 days...high...90 percent A tropical wave located near the easternmost Cape Verde Islands is accompanied by disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are expected to be only marginally favorable for development while the wave moves generally westward over the tropical Atlantic Ocean at 15 to 20 mph this week. A low pressure area located several hundred miles south of Nova Scotia is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. While the circulation of this system has become somewhat better defined since yesterday, subtropical or tropical cyclone development is unlikely because it is expected to merge with a frontal system while it moves generally northward during the next day or so. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...near 0 percent * Formation chance through 5 days...low...near 0 percent Satellite data indicate that the circulation associated with a low pressure system located about 800 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands has become better defined since yesterday. Storm Kilo to strengthen in Pacific, Danny to weaken in Atlantic

Weather system Kilo weakened into a depression by early Saturday but is expected to become a hurricane as it travels across the central Pacific towards the Hawaiian islands over the next several days, the National Weather Service said. Kilo, with sustained winds of up to 30 miles per hour , was centered roughly 520 miles south of Honolulu by Saturday at 5 a.m. EDT , moving west-northwest at about 17 mph , the NWS said.
