Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Supporting the definition, development and implementation of evolutions to the EPS ground segment in line with the revised ground segment requirements for MetopCthree Metops Supporting the definition and execution of the functional verification and operational validation of the updated EPS ground segment Ground Segment VV, coordinating where possible with other EPS ground segment activities such as the EPS Computer Infrastructure Upgrade Project ECIUP Supporting the definition, planning and execution of EPS System Verification and Validation System VV activities, taking advantage of ground segment verification and validation where possible, against the revised system requirements and mission operations concept Supporting the execution of operations preparation activities for the Metop spacecraft and EPS ground segment against the revised mission operations concept Supporting preparations for, and execution of, key system reviews and milestones such as the System Integration, Verification and Validation Readiness Review SIVVRR and Review SIVVR, Launch Operations Readiness Review LORR, and others. We are looking to further enhance our team by adding Ultraviolet Visible Near Infrared Product Development Support Consultant You will be based initially for 2 years at our clients headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. Your Tasks Include The key person will be fully integrated in the Atmospheric Composition Team and will interface with inhouse experts of various disciplines system, instruments, operations, science, and in particular members of the MTG Science and Instrument Teams. The tasks of the key person will include Provision of support to the development of algorithms for calibration of UVN level 0 data Provision of support to the development of an Instrument Data Simulator Taking into account the constraints imposed by the final goal of implementation of the products within an operational processing system Provision of support to the development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and validation the algorithms developed Provision of support to the development of an instrument performance model based on specifications to be provided by industry Provision of support to the development of software for crosscalibration and validation activities Generation of test data required for the verification of the algorithm and products Provision of support to the generation of associated documentation including test data descriptions, Product Specification PS, technical reports etc Interfacing with Client experts as needed Collaboration with expert groups and the wider scientific community as appropriate Assessment of results from scientific studies Provision of support to operational level 2 processor development activities, for future level 2 product development for the UVN instrument. Your Profile The UVN Level 1 product development consultant shall have the experience and capability to fulfill the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and have good interpersonal skills. Heshe shall be familiar with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular calibration and validation of moderate spectral resolution data in the UVVisibleNIR part of the spectrum. Heshe shall have the ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the consultant shall have a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product data processing and analysis including at least 2 years of experience of UVVisibleNIR calibration and validation. Further the consultant shall have a solid background in software engineering. Specifically the consultant shall have experience in Very good skills in a higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C Working with UNIX andor Linux operating systems Specification, design and coding of complex product processors Testing and verification of complex data processing systems Handling and processing of remote sensing data Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the optical spectrum Ultraviolet to Near Infrared Experience with instrument calibration and characterization Familiarity with Earth observation systems in operational meteorology, atmospheric composition and climate monitoring both remote sensing and in situ systems Writing concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports. The following areas of expertise would be an advantage Quality control of satellite data and products Operational product processing environments Quality control of satellite data and products Knowledge of scripting languages e.g. python, Matlab, IDL, bash Knowledge of SQL Software build environments and tools e.g. make, imake, eclipse, insure Source code control system, e.g. GIT, Subversion, or CVS Familiarity with radiative transfer.
