JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The post is required to support the Ground Stations engineering related activities of future ground segments mainly EPSSG and Jason CS .The post will also provide engineering support of the existing MTP, MSG, EPS programmes. The activity is assumed, as a baseline, to require a fulltime participation of one Consultant for the duration of the contract. The tasks of the Consultant will be carried out mainly at EUMETSAT Head Quarter facilities in Darmstadt, but travel to Ground Stations and backup centres located within Europe, may be required for certain activities. The consultant shall support the activities of ground segment developments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications. In doing this, the consultant shall support Engineering activities of Phase B of future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications mainly for supporting EPSSG and JasonCS activities The follow up of the detailed design and development activities of Phase CD of the future ground segments in the areas of Ground Stations, RF and Telecommunications The maintenance and evolution in phase E to the other programmes within EUMETSAT MSG, EPS, Jason, ,.. in the areas of Telecommunications, RF and Ground Stations, The consultant will be a member of a multidisciplinary system engineering team and will report directly to the SEP Ground Stations Engineering Team Leader. However when working in a given programme, the consultant shall report also within the established programme structure. In the performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the relevant organisational and programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant ground stations system engineering standards. Qualifications University degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks. Required knowledge Heshe shall have, as a prerequisite, a demonstrated experience in a similar function for at least 5 years. This experience shall include in particular Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for TTC Ground stations system and subsystem design and development for mission specific andor satellite communications ground stations TTC baseband equipment and SLE compliant implementations Technical background in the specification and VV of ground stations and large antennas and tracking systems for LEO and GEO satellites ACU and receivers inclusive Knowledge of modulationdemodulation schemes applied by Ground to Space ICD for TTC and payload data transmission e.g. ECSS and CCSDS Standards. Desirable Knowledge In addition, the knowledge and experience of the following processesareas is considered as an asset Competence and experience in the engineering processes for managing requirements from the definition phase through the traceability, verification, validation and maintenance stages using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORs Design and requirements engineering of large and complex Earth Observation related ground stations Usage of High Data Rate Demodulators System experience with Link budget analysis and tools in S, X and Ka Band. Standard RF and microwave tools and SW package for generation of signal processing related simulations andor semiautomated measurement procedures . The Consultant shall be in possession of sound organisational and interpersonal skills to conduct the responsibilities described above autonomously and with a minimum level of supervision, exhibiting good oral and written communications skills, analytical capabilities, and motivation. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the consultant must be able to work effectively in this language. Computer Support Operations Engineer at ESAC

Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has 4 IT engineers in the Computer Support Group CSG and requires an engineer to cover for a maternity leave period of circa 5 6 months. Overview This work is to provide a number of specialised services to support ESA in Computer System Engineering at ESAC for the missions science operations centres. The SREO Computer Support Group CSG is providing computer support to all science operations centres and science ground segments located at ESAC, either in development or in operational phase. Under this work package, service shall be provided to support ESA in system administration activities for those computer systems used for science operations and research activities. These computers are general servers or workstations mainly based on Linux and Oracle Solaris, Macintoshes, Technical PCs and for Office Automation activities. The environment also includes Disk Storage infrastructure, Virtual infrastructure as well as GRID and Cloud computing infrastructures. Systems can be physical machines or provided through virtual infrastructure. These systems are connected to networks organized by functions operational, office and development, external services, GRID, Cloud and administration networks. Specific tasks would include installation, configuration, deployment, integration, monitoring, administration and maintenance of these computer systems, scientific and commercial software installation and administration, data backup and retrieval, interface with IT vendors for quotation, installation and maintenance agreements, users IT support, defining and operating computers operational procedures, hardware inventory tracking. It specifically excludes ESA corporate informatics infrastructure services office automation, network, terminal servers, Lotus Notes, LAN and communications, which are provided and subject to separate Service Level Agreements SLA. Specific Service Tasks The following tasks are the most important for the position Symantec Netbackup administration Netbackup server infrastructure troubleshooting master server, media servers, NDMP configuration, Sun Storagetec library Netbackup client agents troubleshooting Daily maintenance tasks design policies, monitoring backups using activity monitor, configuration of new storage devices, restore tasks, etc VMWare administration Deployment and maintenance of virtual servers and templates resource management, restore tasks. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in Spain without the need to obtain a work visa. Only European Union citizens can be employed by Aurora in Spain. Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. In line with ESAs security requirements, prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident, and Aurora will validate your employment history. Location The work will be performed at the ESAC, the European Space Astronomy Centre, at Villafranca del Castillo, near Madrid, Spain. Contract Start date early October 2015 to allow for a handover You will be registered for both social security and tax in Spain. The standard working hours are 40 per week including sometimes support in the evenings and weekends. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 30 annual days holiday.
