We are currently looking for an experienced Ground Segment Systems Engineer to join our international team of inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector. BACKGROUND Within the Ground Segment System Engineering GSSE Competence Area of the System Engineering and Projects SEP Division, the Ground Segment System Engineer will be responsible for coordinating system engineering activities aimed at maintaining and evolving ground systems for EUMETSAT and Copernicus missions exploited by EUMETSAT, including system engineering coordination with external partners. DUTIES Provide coordinated engineering support required to maintain operational ground systems and upgrade systems in response to evolving requirements, including maintenance of system level documentation and architectural models Analyse specifications and impacts on system architecture for evolutions or major upgrades to operational ground systems, in order to ensure overall systemscoherence Define the IVV testing approach for evolutions or major upgrades, and coordinateimplement testing, including support to the installation and integration of new components Support coordination with external partners e.g. ESA, European Commission, NOAA, ECMWF, MercatorOcean on ground segment engineering activities and interfaces Perform technology and trend analysis on enterprise architectures, emerging technologies and assess their implications for EUMETSAT and Copernicus missions and systems and interfaces with external partners Support the transition of newly developed ground segments into Operations at system level, including support to installation and integration, verification and validation testing. Familiarity with TTC transponders, Payload Data Transmitters for Earth Observation and other spacecraft subsystems technology design and testing is an asset, as is knowledge on TTC spaceflight hardware development. Knowledge on satellite telecommunication systems based on optical technology is an asset. Copernicus Missions Expert Support Engineer

Position Reference 1004 We are currently looking for an expert engineerscientist willing to work in ESAESRIN in Frascati, Italy. This person will be part of a team involved in the provision of engineeringscientific and management support services to ESA in the context of the Copernicus Space Component Programme 4 CSC4. In particular, the person we are looking for will provide specialised expert support for products and algorithm definition and CalVal in relation the missions CRISTAL Copernicus Polar Ice and Snow Topography Altimeter and CIMR Copernicus Imaging Microwave Radiometer during Phases AB1, B2CDE1. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Preparation of the contractual documentation including the definition of Level 2 products, RD studies, CalVal studies, CalVal tools definition, Fiducial Reference Measurements developments. Support to the definition and documentation of the CalVal plan. Support to the development of ground segment data processing, calibration, validation and quality control facilities. Contribution to definition of processing algorithms. Contribution to definition of calibration algorithms. Contribution to Test Data Set specification. Preparation of the endtoend data quality process of mission products during its exploitation phase, including the products and processing scenario definition, the algorithm definition and evolution for Level 1 and Level 2 products, the calibration and the geophysical validation concept definition and evolution during the development and exploitation phases. Continuous assessment of the evolving user requirements regarding ESA EO optical missions in term of data quality, calibration and validation, exploring potential synergies with missions under EOPG responsibility. Harmonisation and standardisation of the ESA strategy and innovation in term of algorithm calibration and validation of ESA EO products with the European and international scientific partners. Support to the mission managers for the communication activities, contributing to the preparation of presentations and reports. Publication of papers in peerreviewed journals is highly encouraged. Participation to reviews, review of documentation including generation of review item discrepancies. Participation to expert meetings ex Mission Advisory Group and user meetings. Participation to ESA coordination meeting ESTEC, industry. Participation to Ground Segment Reviews organised either by ESA or by Industry. Support to the Ground Segment Overall Validation. Support to the setup and management of the CalVal team. Adhoc development of tools for the accomplishment of the algorithm development, testing and validation, etc. Generation of technical notes whenever needed. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University PhD or Masters degree in physics, engineeringscientific or Earth sciences with particular emphasis on EO satellite, data processing algorithms, calibration and validation. Proven experience with EO satellite within institutes or industry, with a strong scientific background and experience in project management. Specific experience in the technical domains covered by the EO Expansion Mission missions, specifically in relation to Altimeter andor Imaging Microwave Radiometer instruments. Knowledge of scientific discipline, including strategic vision of the Earth Observation area Stateoftheart knowledge in area of responsibility at required level.
