Senior Engineer, Platform Program United States Manassas, Virginia Role description summary As the Senior Engineer, Platform Program you will manage the platform program implementation of the first ever fully digital High Throughput Satellite HTS in Geosynchronous Orbit GEO called SES17. You will oversee and work collaboratively with SES supplier HNS Hughes Network System in Germantown, MD and partner closely with the SES team in Manassas, VA to ensure that the GEO platform development and implementation is compatible with future GEO and Medium Earth Orbit MEO infrastructure. You will interact with key suppliers including platform suppliers, ARC Adaptive Resource Control Satellite Dynamic Resource Managements as well with internal stakeholders. In addition, you will be responsible and accountable for the timely development, production, testing, and delivery of the SES17 HTS platform. Primary responsibilities Key result areas Drives timely delivery execution and delivery of SES17 HTS platform within SES requirements and budget Provides technical leadership for new GEO and MEO ground platform development Tracks development and implementation of SES17 HTS system work streams and report deviations Prepares and approves critical designs, tests phases test plan and test results and implementation milestones Provides daily oversight of design, assembly, integration, test, and deployment phases to ensure the technical, functional, performance, and business requirements are met Provides oversight of activities at manufacturer and subcontractor facilities as needed Reviews design, manufacturing and test documentation Provides summary reports of issues and associated program impact timely and recommended actions Drives technical defects and bug resolution with our partner vendor HNS Maintains high level of visibility into contractor activities and identify any potential shortcoming that could impact program schedule Cooperates in international cross functional teams, particularly with network operation team and product development engineering teams Serves as the ley technical point of contact for the platform supplier and technical lead for the SDRMPlatform interface Deploys ground systems in a lab environment, run test plans, and generate test reports. Supports product, asset management and sales teams as needed Communicates day to day program issues to functional manager and teams Identifies gaps on the execution plan and propose mitigation actions Addresses program action items Develops long term mutually beneficial relationship between SES and the platform supplier evaluates and presents valueformoney tradeoffs for contract change proposals if any Provides training and support as required to other technical staff Evaluates and recommends thirdparty test tools to aid with systems test effort Creates operations handover documentations that describes SES Networks specific configuration, commissioning procedure, troubleshooting guides, and CONOPs Competencies Problem solving Decision making Negotiation Customer service Oral and written communication SelfMotivated Leadership Selfmotivated Prioritization Team Player Qualifications Experience Minimum 12 years of experience in the satellite and telecommunications industry required including platforms and RF communications systems required Minimum Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Information Technology related scientificengineering field experience may be subsisted for education required Masters degree preferred Platform technology, procurement, quality assurance, and agile software development experience preferred Excellent level in IP protocols, TCP, UDP, RTP, routing protocols, and switching preferred Excellent level with designing service levels using QoS feature of VSAT platforms preferred Strong knowledge of WAN optimization techniques including TCP acceleration, caching, and compression preferred Basic experience with Unix system environment preferred HNS Certifications and or other industry certification preferred Project Management Professional certification preferred Whats in it for you?
