Mechanical Engineer

We are currently looking for an innovative, imaginative and practically minded Mechanical Engineer. You will be joining a small and enthusiastic team developing instrumentation for several space missions. You will be working at the Harwell Campus, an innovative hub for science and technology advancement in the UK. Duties and responsibilities Lead mechanical design of flight, engineering, and support hardware Lead structural and thermal analyses of flight and engineering hardware Generate and maintain 3D CAD modelling of bespoke space sensors Perform structural and thermal finite element analyses Produce engineering drawings for assembly and manufacture, and define integration procedures Manage BOM for manufacturing and production, and deal with manufacturing supply chain Support assembly, integration and test of space equipment and systems Prepare technical documentation design specifications, test plan, etc., and analysis and test reports Define and manage mechanical requirements and act as Mechanical Lead during project reviews with customers ESA, UKSA, etc. Own quality documentation relevant to the role, e.g. Declared Parts Materials Lists, ECNs, NCRs. Support subcontractor coordination and activities Actively contribute in the writing of proposals for grant applications Qualifications experience Minimum 3 years of experience in the spaceaerospace industry Product development life cycle including requirement definition, design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing 3D Mechanical CAD preferably SolidWorks GDT using ISOASME standards Preparation of FEMs for structural and thermal FEAs of large assemblies preferably PatranNastran Hands on MAIT activities Experience with environmental testing and definition of test specifications Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes to aid design for manufacturing Experience with ECSS standards Competent with MS Office package Proactive and hands on approach to problems Excellent oral and written communication skills Skills considered an asset Understanding of material and surface treatment for optical space systems Experience in the space sector Familiarity with formal configuration control methods Supply chain network

The successful candidate will be an Electronics Engineer with analogue and PCB design experience, ideally with some experience in the space industry. Duties and responsibilities Design analogue frontend systems for interfacing sensors to digital and power systems. Simulate analogue systems using SPICE models. Design to EMC and EMI requirements. Perform functional tests, and supervise EMC and EMI testing. Design large, manylayer PCBs using ORCAD. Write reports on all of the above for external review. Designing and troubleshooting optical hardware and software for space missions Deriving and managing requirements Providing technical interface to customers and subcontractors Developing innovative solutions to engineering requirements Working with a dynamic team to produce innovative solutions Preparing technical documentation including test procedures, design specifications and engineering change notices Qualifications skills Degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
