Digital RF Design Engineer Our client is a new European space launch company with backing from several of Europes largest venture capital investors and space agency funding. We are recruiting an experienced RF Engineer for an exciting spaceflight development role based in Forres near Inverness, at our engineering office and manufacturing centre. We are seeking a motivated, experienced Digital RF Design Engineer, ideally with space segment experience, to work on the design of RF systems launch vehicle and ground. The launch vehicle will include several radio transmitters and receivers, covering command uplink, telemetry downlink, video downlink, and GNSS reception. You will be responsible for RF system design, and particularly softwaredefined radio SDR transmitters and receivers. Previous experience with SDR is considered essential. You MIGHT BE a highly experienced digital RF engineer, working in a slowmoving environment that rarely gives you a chance to see your work in action. You will be eager for a fastpaced opportunity that offers exceptional freedom and responsibility, as well as the chance to create a critical component on a European space launch vehicle. Role Digital RF Avionics Design Engineer Start date February 2019 ASAP Workplace ForresInverness Travel Occasional within Europe Your responsibilities will include Link budgets, and licence applications to governing authorities. Procurement and test of transmitter and receiver hardware launch vehicle and ground SDR configuration and programming, to match RF signals of integrated transceivers. Interfacing with external radio ground stations operators, to ensure compatibility between their and our systems. Experience Minimum of a bachelors degree in aerospace engineering or a related field 48 years of handson experience with RF system design, development and testing. Software defined radio, GNU radio, modulation theory and signal processing. You will have the opportunity to provide your expertise in the area of the Big Data technologies e.g. ApacheStorm, Apache Kafka, etc. expected to be used for orchestrating the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG processing chains. These processing chains will be exercised through the EPSSG Payload Data Acquisition and Processing PDAP subsegment which will be part of the EPSSG Overall Ground Segment OGS. You will also provide your engineering support to RHEA business related to BIG DATA and our internal projects. This position will be therefore based in EUMETSAT and in our offices in Darmstadt. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Familiarize with the relevant components of the EPSSG programme, the design of the EPSSG Overall Ground Segment OGS and its PDAP subsegment with a focus on the DPI subsystem. Provide expertise and advice on Big Data Technologies used by DPI. Contribute to the review of DPI related technical documentation. Support to follow the development and testing of the DPI. Investigate possible further optimizations of the DPI design. Support to assessment of EPSSG Operational Processors. Provide training on Big Data Technologies. Provide support to the RHEA business related to BIG DATA and our internal projects. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a proven indepth understanding of Big Data Technologies, including as a minimum the following ones Apache Kafka Apache Storm You have experience in programming using Java programming language You have experience with data processing of large data volumes, including distributed resource management tools You have proven experience in providing similar expertise You have proven Project Management skills demonstrated through successful completion of similar projects You have a proven ability to communicate in English, as all communication with EUMETSAT will be in English.
