It is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for an exciting spaceflight development role based in Forres Invernesshire at our new engineering and manufacturing centre. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Mechanical Structural Design Engineer to work on a new class of orbital space launch vehicle. The system you will work on will be a critical, integral part of the main structure of the launch vehicle. You will probably be a highly experienced aerospacemotorsport composites engineer, working in an environment that rarely gives you a chance to see your work in action. Your responsibilities as the Mechanical Structural Design Engineer will include Design, analysis and manufacturing of structural elements for the Orbex launch vehicle Testing qualification programme development and execution Maintaining and updating structuresrelated design documents Internal and external production and materials liaison Requirements of the Mechanical Structural Design Engineer 48 years of experience in airframe, motorsport or spacecraft structural design Understanding of parts design and total subsystem relations Understanding of metals and composite materials Sealing, joints and tribology in under pressures and thermal loads Detailed understanding of loads, stress, thermal, fatigue and radiation cycles General production and additive manufacturing experience CAD experience, ideally Solidworks CFD experience, Ansys preferred Minimum of a bachelors degree in aerospace, mechanical or structural engineering 46 years of composite manufacturing experience in aerospace or similar environment A creative, lateral thinker, able to solve problem pragmatically Able to find innovative solutions to complete mechanical and structural problems Fluency in use of CAD FEA systems A flexible and dedicated mindset English language skills. Primary Purpose of the Role To define architecture, design, specify and implement electronic units including PCB schematics to relevant European Space Agency flight standards. The main duties and responsibilities will include Customer requirements analysis Contribute to system design, definition of requirements and Work Package definition Architectural design with an assessment and tradeoff of design options Selection of parts suitable for the space environment Design of the required function to schematic level Worst case and Stress Analysis of the design to ensure reliable operation A working knowledge, and preferably direct experience of software design and its interaction with hardware. Role overview The Design and Production Engineer Mechanical requires conceptual direction with specification like technical inputs from a Senior Engineer on design tasks.
