This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESTEC in Noordwijk in The Netherlands. Communication Systems Technologies Engineer 1411077 Job Description As part of the TECETC section in the following competences are covered Satellite communication systems and subsystems definition as main technical architect for advanced satellite networks. Endtoend communication system performance analysis. Advanced software tools specifications and development, in support of sub systems analysis. Modulation, coding, multiple access, synchronization and digital signal processing techniques. Modems for ground and space applications. Networking, traffic engineering, resource management, protocols design and verification. Techniques for securing communication links from and endtoend perspective. Communication testbeds for laboratory and pilot satellite systems. Furthermore the Section is actively involved in the support and follow up of standardization activities ETSI, ITU, DVB and has been providing consultancies to external customers e.g. EC, SESAstra, Eutelsat, Inmarsat, Qualcomm etc. The section has been pioneering and pursuing further the fields of broadband satellite modem and networks analysis and simulations, advanced CDMA VSAT and mobile networks, multiuser detection, highspeed modems for high spectral and power efficient modulations, application of adaptive coding and modulation to Kaband, Satellite UMTS pilot system, system analysis tools. The contractor will perform a diverse range of support which can be grouped within the following main headings Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA RD. Activities and contracts technical followup. Specific engineering support to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects. o Support to telecom related demonstrations inside and outside ESTEC. The contractor shall mostly focus on the following technical areas Satellite modem physical and link layer analysis, design, prototyping and testing. SATCOM Systems and network analysis and simulations. Required Skills and Experience Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering with particular emphasis on digital transmissions from the physical and MAC perspective. Strong technical background in telecommunication engineering and knowledge of the relevant communication protocols is required. Knowledge of the main satellite and terrestrial telecom standards is considered an asset as well as the experience with communication system HW prototyping and testing e.g. FPGA, DSP, GPU, microprocessors. Broad technical expertise in telecommunication networks design withparticular emphasis on physical and link layer, and good understanding of multiple access telecommunication protocols. Good knowledge and experience in the use of communication simulation software tools e.g. Matlab, C is required. The candidate shall be familiar with satellite communication architectures and techniques. At least one year experience in analysis and design of modern digital communication systems, coding and synchronization issues. Knowledge of modern prototyping and testing methodologies for digital communication subsystems.
