This is a permanent position, calling for experience of high availability cluster environments, running Oracle under Solaris and Linux operating systems. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in February 2016. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English and fluency in English is essential. The role involves tasks related to the development and maintenance of storage and computing systems with special focus on backup, archive and retrieval services, such as Monitoring facility services, computing, storage, backup and archive performance, investigation into hardware and software problems and performance of relevant corrective actions Ensuring that after hardware or software failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backuparchive procedures Provision of standbyoncall support Provision of support, as required, to critical operations The duties include the administration and operation of central archive systems and tape storage components, maintenance of offsite storage, inventory and support of the operation of the storage services. The key experience and attributes sought are Five years experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage and computing systems in high availability cluster environments, running Oracle under Solaris and Linux operating systems Implementation and maintenance of backup and recovery solutions, ideally with Symantec NetBackup Implementation and maintenance of archive solutions managed by Hierarchical Storage Management system Oracle SAMFS Administration of high end, automated, tape library systems StorageTek SL8500 series with ACSLS software Storage administration of Storage Area Networks SAN, middle and enterprise storage arrays serving many different types of client platforms via a virtual layer Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous StorageSystemService Monitoring using the Nagios framework Administration of Perl and PHP scripting TCPIP internetworking and related network protocols and applications Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
