Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer Exo Mars Rover

AIRBUS GROUP A vacancy for a Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. As the successful applicant you will support the system engineering managers with a target focused on Exo Mars Rover to module interfaces. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Requirements management and change impact analysis, including verification planning and tracking. Technical resource and performance budget management including some underlying analyses. System level Tradeoffs including both technical and programmatic factors, including costs. Interface management. Identifying dedicated analyses needs to ensure full engineering coverage to meet the requirements, formulating plans for approval and executing them within the team. Preparing progress reports of work performed, in both Word and PowerPoint styles. Presenting and communicating complex technical problems and solution approach to internal and external parties. Review of subcontractor documentation including design reports, analyses, tradeoffs, technical budgets, interface requirements and designs etc, including raising and coordination of RIDs at design reviews. Coordinating multiauthor documentation as book captain, including datapack generation planning and tracking. Generating own documentation including responsibility to progress through signature loop. Answering relevant customer RIDs at design reviews of Astrium work. Chairing and secretary tasks of meetings as required. Work package management. Work area management and associated planning and reporting. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Educated to first degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Science, Physics or related topic. A proven experience in system engineering and in space engineering is mandatory Understanding of EMC, Cleanliness and electricalmechanical interface would be appreciated. Experience in and understanding of requirements engineering in DOORS. Knowhow project management processes meeting management, change management, action tracking is mandatory for the position. TechnicalSystems expert for future Space Science missions, as the successful applicant, you will be responsible for proposals, typically to ESA or other Agencies, and subsequent development of overall missionsystems design in feasibility studies for future space science and Earth Observation missions. You will take a leading role in these proposals and studies, and in the development of mission concepts and architectures. You will join a small team and be expected to develop overall business strategies within Airbus in relation to these missions, and define and lead associated RD activities. INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS The succesful candidate will be working with members of their own team and with other departments, with some delegation and supervision possible. He she will be presenting and substantiating the solutions and results of their work performed to peers and managers, influence other employees in their own department and other functional areas about their proposed solutions, while participating in tradeoffs and development of an overall balanced system design. He she will partitionate and delegate work to other engineers and other departments and managing those tasks. The individual will be part of a matrix organisation with internal project and functional interfaces to the microwave instrument project teams within the business unit the Engineering Manager, the Design Authority Systems Manager to the support functions to the project team outside the business unit AIT, MDO, parts, quality to the Instrument and Payload Systems Engineering functional organisation to the Head of Department and Head of Group to the Instrument and Payload Future Business organisation both at business unit level and transnationally. EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS Interact with customers suppliers to agree specifications, monitor progress and answer technical queries. Technical presentations and discussions with customers and suppliers at project review meetings or other events. Other customer and supplier interaction as required by particular project needs including presentation at conferences. The individual will typically need to provide support to following external project technical interfaces to ESA, Eumetsat, UKSA or other national agencies as customer organisations to satellite prime contractors as the immediate spacecraftlevel customer interface to core team partner and subcontractor organisations to microwave instrument technology suppliers and partner organisations. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Responsible for the analysis, design, development and test of Instrument and Payload systems, hardwaresoftware and components with emphasis on digital signal processing algorithms and embedded code. Responsible for derivation of Instrument and Payload requirements from top level mission, system or payload specifications. Creation of innovative architecture and analytical solutions for various Instrument and Payload applications. Responsible for development and maintenance of Instrument and Payload performance models for both active synthetic aperture radars radar altimeters scatterometers and passive microwave instruments radiometers sounders. Establishing performance analysis to enable understanding and interpretation of overall system requirements and translation to Instrument and Payload performance parameters. Managing Instrument and Payload electrical systems designdevelopmentverification tasks or work packages through to completion within the designated performance, schedule and cost requirements. Derivation of key performance parameters and apportionment for specification on procured equipment and subassemblies with appropriate margins. Prepare engineering documents, requirement specifications, perform analyses, generate verification and design justification files. Support to Instrument and Payload integration, test and verification in respect of electrical systems aspects. Provide support to analysis of instrument test data. Preparation and delivery of technical presentations to customers. Responsibility for work packages, delegating to and supporting other members of the department as necessary and controlling cost and schedule to deliver the required outputs. Subcontractor technical management where products are being procured from external suppliers, including review of technical proposals and other technical documentation, participation in technical negotiations, attending progress meetings and design reviews at the suppliers and at the customers premises, ensuring delivery of products which meet the requirements. Support to technical proposal preparation. Support to peer reviews of studies, projects and proposals. Mandatory skills Degree or MSc in Physics, Electronics or related Engineering discipline. Proven capability in systems signals analysis and DSP design with a successful product portfolio. Solid understanding of fundamental signal theory and analysis methods, including communications theory and optimum encoding schemes, and the ability to apply this from first principles in practical applications to create innovative solutions to problems. Experienced and proficient in the use of MATLAB, including the Signal Processing toolbox. Proven ability to partition and allocate requirements with adequate margins, and to set performance levels and verification requirements for lower levels. Proven ability to analyse customer requirements and develop innovative feasible solutions by proposing architectures and performing tradeoffs.
