Samsung Electronics to sell fiber optics business to Corning

South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said on Tuesday that it will sell its fiber optics business to U.S. glass panel supplier Corning Inc, without disclosing terms of the sale. The sale will include Samsung Electronics' production facilities for the business in China and South Korea, the company's spokeswoman said.

AT&T backs off threat to halt its fiber rollout

AT&T now says it will continue its already-announced fiber optic network expansion to 100 cities, backtracking on comments by AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson after President Obama voiced support for net neutrality last month. The move brought a strong retort from critics who say the carrier's fiber optic plans are mostly bogus and were designed as a competitive play against the ongoing Google Fiber rollout.

AT&T tells FCC its threat to halt fiber rollout is only for new projects

AT&T isn't backing down from its threat to halt its fiber rollout , which was a not-so-subtle jab at President Obama's pro-net neutrality / Title II comments earlier this month. Following an FCC inquiry about that announcement, AT&T said in a letter today that it's still going to move forward with existing fiber commitments -- it's just not going to make any new plans.
