FAA alleges that Sun Country failed to conduct pre-employment drug tests and receive verified negative results before hiring or transferring 1 mechanic and 3 flight attendants into safety-sensitive positions. FAA also alleges airline failed to include 1 pilot and 7 aviation screeners in random drug and alcohol testing pool.

Denver International Airport and FAA are partnering to raise awareness about safe unmanned aircraft operations. Agencies teamed up on a Public Service Announcement that will run on the video towers in the airport’s main terminal. Using "No Drone Zone" slogan, PSA drives home the point that flying an unmanned aircraft near a manned aircraft is illegal and dangerous. It refers viewers to FAA’s unmanned aircraft website and to the knowbeforeyoufly.org website for further information and guidance.

FAA Commits to New Agreements with TCCA and EASA.

On September 15, FAA signed agreements with international regulatory partners European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Transport Canada (TCCA) allowing these authorities to rely on each other's regulatory systems. In addition to eliminating duplicate processes, said agreements will accelerate installation of safety enhancing equipment on aircraft and conserve time and expense for both industry and regulatory authorities. FAA has cooperated with EASA for 10+ years and with TCCA for 15+.

FAA Opens Arctic to commercial small unmanned aircraft.

While aboard Westward Wind on September 12, FAA Alaskan Region inspector Jay Skaggs helped ensure first FAA-approved commercial flights by unmanned aircraft was conducted safely. Westward Wind, which carried 4 Insitu Scan Eagle UAS to perform marine mammal and ice surveys, captured UAS after successful 36 min flight. This flight represents efforts by people from FAA, ConocoPhillips, Insitu, and other agencies who worked for months to open up Arctic for commercial UAS operations.
