Spacecraft Operations Engineer Heliophysics Missions

Position Reference 769 We are currently looking for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to work at our clients premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. The areas of responsibility for this role encompass from Operations Supervision and Mission Planning, to assuming the responsibility and performing activities for additional subsystems or systems within the scope of general SOE services, including testing, validation and operation of the Mission Control System, Mission Planning System and Simulator. The key person will be primarily assigned to the Heliophysics Missions Operations Unit OPSOPS which encompasses Cluster II in extended routine and Solar Orbiter in cruise missions within the Solar System Exploration Missions Division but with the possibility of supporting other missions . Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Operations Supervision. Anomaly Handling. Mission Planning. Tools, MIB and FOP Maintenance. Validation and Deployment of Ground Systems updates. Management and coordination of internal mission interfaces. Spacecraft Performance Analysis and Reporting. Phase Execution Eclipses Ops, Flyby, Remote Sensing Windows, etc.. OnBoard Software Maintenance Support Service. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent education in a relevant discipline. Spacecraft System and Subsystem knowledge AOCSDHOBSMPowerThermalTTCPayload. Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations. Coordination and interaction with other service providers in operations and other fields team player. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Experience in programming in Python and SW Engineering practices and technology SQLNoSQL DB, Angular, Django, Docker, GITLAB, webservices, etc.. Experience in the generation of nominal contingency procedures. Familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCOS2000. Familiarity with Onboard SW and OBCP development. Familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat. Familiarity with deep space missions. Familiarity with MOIS. The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. This includes Ground Systems PreOperations Support FOS Assembly, Integration and Validation preOperational Support SpacetoGround Interfaces testing and validation preOperational Support. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent education in a relevant discipline. Proven expertise providing support to and integrating within Mission Control Teams for FOS development activities, from early requirements definition phase to A,IV activities. As a minimum 5 years of experience. Good understanding of the operational concepts linked to File Based Operations FBO and CFDP. Proven experience drafting and implementing FOS System Test Plans Understanding and knowledge of EGOSCC MCS based systems. Demonstrable experience with S2K based MCS. Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE Heliophysics Spacecraft Systems

Thorn SDS provides specialist spacecraft engineering services within the European Space Sector. We have a new and immediate requirement for services within the Heliophysics Missions Operations Unit at ESA ESOC, Darmstadt. This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced SOE with excellent communication skills in English, to work on a number of hugely interesting programmes. Once successful you will initially support Cluster II in extended routine operations and Solar Orbiter in cruise operations and will have opportunities to work on other missions within the Solar System and Explorations Missions Division. The scope of the role is wide ranging and includes Operations Supervision, Mission Planning, Spacecraft Performance Analysis and Reporting, Phase Execution, Anomaly Handling and Onboard Software. You should be able to clearly demonstrate experience in all of these areas. We expect you to have applicable knowledge and experience across all Spacecraft Subsystems and ideally be considered expert in at least one AOCS DH OBSM Power Thermal TTC Payload you should also be able to demonstrate your team player attributes ideally with experience of coordinating and interacting with other service providers in operations scenarios. The role will develop with the mission phases, and across different missions, so we are looking for engineers who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fastpaced environment. With experience of the full lifecycle of spacecraft flight procedures and deep space missions, you will have carried out procedure creation, validation and simulations. You should have worked on SVTs, anomaly investigations and have a good understanding of spacecraft operations at system level. Programming skills in Python, a good understanding of general software engineering practices SQL, Djangi, Docker, GITLAB, experience with MOIS and a familiarity of the SCOS2000 mission control system would all be considered advantageous. Juggling tasks and making the most of the resources available to you will be essential in this role.
