The Position We are searching for a Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE with strong software engineering skills and experience to support our customer EUMETSAT, based in Darmstadt. As a full member of our excellent SOE team, you will deliver a state of the art spacecraft operations for the Sentinel3 constellation. Beside the routine operation of the Sentinel3 AB satellites, you will be involved in the preparation and early operations phases of the Sentinel3 C mission. It is fulltime and permanent and encouraged starting date will be the earliest July 2021 on customer site in EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. We are looking forward to meeting you! ResponsibilitiesDuties You major role in team are the routine operations of the Sentinel 3A and 3B satellites and the relevant system andor platform and instrument Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures. Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments. Investigation into satellite anomalies. Participation in satellite oncall support rota. Identification and support to the implementation of system and process improvements in the team. Develop and validate Sentinel3s innovative set of operational tools. Support the systems and operations preparation of the Sentinel3 C and the upcoming CO2M satellite. Cross Certification with other TPZG projects as requested by the Line Manager QualificationsExperience You hold a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering or any other related area. You have several years of experience working in satellite operations and operations preparation. You have proven experience in software engineering, in particular Python. You are familiar with satellite mission controls systems for LEO satellite systems, especially SCOS2000. Last, but not least your experience in Earth Observation Missions especially COPERNICUS missions will be a huge plus! Crucial Skills Several years of experience as Operations Engineer. System level knowledge and expertise of platform and optical payloads. Experience with prelaunch, development activities combined with the exposure to SVTs, operations validation, etc. Experience with mission control systems. Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedures and OnBoard Scheduler concepts. Be passionate about working in a dynamic work environment. Excellent communication skills. In parallel, EUMETSAT is working towards the launch of the next generation of Meteosat Third Generation MTG and Metop Second Generation MetopSG satellites. Working within the LEO Low Earth Orbit Spacecraft Operations Team of the Flight Operations FLO Division, the Spacecraft Operations Engineer will support the operations preparation and operations of the future Metop Second Generation satellites, as well as the routine operations and monitoring of the Metop First Generation satellites. The main areas of focus will be the Attitude and Orbit Control AOCS subsystem, as well as the management of Onboard Software OBSW and its maintenance process. Within the LEO Spacecraft Operations Team of the Flight Operations FLO Division, the LEO Spacecraft Operations Engineers support flight operations of the Metop satellites and the development and operations preparation of future LEO satellite systems, in particular EPSMetopSecond Generation. Once successful you will be primarily assigned to the Mars Exploration Operations Unit but will have opportunities to work on other missions within the Solar System and Explorations Missions Division. This is a fabulous opportunity for an individual with excellent communication skills in English, to work on a number of hugely interesting programmes. The scope of the role is wide ranging and includes Test Preparation and Execution FOP Preparation Mission Phase Definition Mission Phase execution including LEOP, commissioning, Mars Arrival and Surface operations Anomaly Handling, Mission Planning and Spacecraft Performance Analysis and Reporting. You should have experience in all of these areas. You should have applicable knowledge and experience across all Spacecraft Subsystems AOCS DH OBSM Power Thermal TTC Payload also have experience in Ground Segment development, improvement activities in support of flight operations and activities applicable to spacecraft operations. It is a key requirement that you are able to demonstrate your team player attributes ideally with experience of coordinating and interacting with other service providers in operations scenarios. The role will develop with the mission phases, and across different missions so we are looking for engineers who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fastpaced environment, perhaps already familiar with the ESOC environment. With experience of the full lifecycle of spacecraft flight procedures, deep space missions and validation of ground segment systems you will ideally have carried out procedure creation, validation and simulations.
