Spacecraft Operations Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Spacecraft Operations Engineer to primarily carry out Data Handling within EarthCare but with the possibility of supporting other missions within the division. Responsibilities will include Validation, test and operation of the Mission Control System MCS, Setup, validation, test and operation of the OBSM systems and Validation and test of the Data Handling Subsystem of the Simulator. Other EarthCare related responsibilities will include The On Board Computer, including the remote interface Unit and the Mass Memory and Formatting Unit and the Mass Memory and Formatting Unit, together with their application software. In addition the candidate will provide support to other subsystem engineers in the team with respect to units which contain embedded software. The successful candidate may be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional subsystems or systems as defined by the SOM or Division Head. All applicants must have experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations along with spacecraft subsystem knowledge, preferably for Data Handling. They will have basic knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems and detailed knowledge of the subsystems listed in the technical description. Knowledge and experience in ESA Ground Segment Operations and ESOC Ground Segment Components Mission Control System, Simulators is desirable. Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is essential along the ability to work independently with little supervision. The following qualities would be considered an advantage ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard knowledge, familiarity with the ESOC environment, familiarity with satellite control systems, in particular SCSOS2000, some experience dealing with external interfaces, familiarity with operational simulators, especially the ones based on SimSat and familiarity with low Earth orbit satellites. Candidates should be able to multitask efficiently working in multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. A University or similar degree in Engineering or Physics is required.
