Metop Spacecraft Operations Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climaterelated satellite data, images and products for its users. Your responsibilities will include Provide operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and Instruments Investigate satellite anomalies in cooperation with the Operations Support Entity Participate in the satellite oncall support rota Identify and support the implementation of system and process improvements Contribute towards the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites Support the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Operations preparation support for Sentinel3 and JasonCS developments. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in a relevant discipline Spacecraft monitoring and control operations, spacecraft operations preparation engineering and Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level Experience with some of the following would be an advantage Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities Configuration management and simulator facilities Fluency in English is mandatory. In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the Key person shall have a demonstrated experience in one or more of the following Spacecraft monitor and control operations Spacecraft operations preparation engineering Low Earth Orbit spacecraft design or Assembly Integration and Test activities at system or subsystem level. Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Key person to have experience with some of the following Inorbit operations of Low Earth Orbit Earth Observation satellites Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, AWK Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications. Mission You will work in the Operations and User Services Department as a member of the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team. You will be assigned and trained to provide operations expertise and support to one or more platform subsystems and or payload instruments, depending on his or her experience and the overall team needs. You will also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, you will support system and operations preparation activities for MetopC, for Metop Second Generation satellites and possibly also for Sentinel3 and JasonCS. You will be required to support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. Your tasks will typically include Support to the routine operations of Metop A, B and preparing for MetopC, comprising Provision of operational expertise to one or more platform subsystems andor payload instruments Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close cooperation with the Operations Support Entity in ESTEC and Industry Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Metop Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of Metop Second Generation satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites.
