This is a great opportunity for an experienced software engineer to undertake the engineering and maintenance of our Mission Planning software applications and related tools. Managing the technical aspects of support contracts with industry, you will measure their performance against agreed service levels. You will lead on defining and completing maintenance procedures, correcting anomalies, ensuring that we track improvements and upgrades to improve the consistency and consolidation of our skills and knowledge in our Mission Planning Application functions across all EUMETSATs systems. With a background in maintaining large scale software systems, ideally in support of spacecraft mission lifecycles in an operational environment, you will understand the standards CCSDS relevant to Space Mission Control. You will use your knowledge of software development lifecycles, design methodologies and programing skills, along with Mission Planning functions and algorithms used within LowEarth Orbit LEO missions to support the design and development of new ground systems. This role requires maturity and the ability to deal with a fast paced environment. You must be highly organised, with strong time management skills and the capability to analyse complex situations. For our activities at EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated and enthusiastic Mission Control System Engineer to work with the Sentinel3 Flight Operations Segment within the Mission Control Systems Team of the Flight Operations Division at EUMETSAT, in an exciting innovative international environment. The primary responsibilities of this role will be The Mission Control System Engineer MCSE shall perform tasks related to mission control operations, during the routine operations phase. The tasks primarily involve the operations and operational conficuration of The Flight Operations Segment Mission Control System FOS MCS based on SCOS2000 The Network Data Interface Unit NDIU interface to the SBand TT C ground station equipment Other operational interfaces of the MCS, including those within the FOS Satellite onboard software maintenance capability, and Satellite simulator. The MCSE performs or contributes to the maintenance, update, validation and documentation of the mission control operational implementation and application software. The operational implementation is defined in the relevant operations procedures and documentation produced by and for the operations team, execution scripts used to operate andor maintain the FOS MCS, and operational databases and displays related to satellite payload and platform monitoring and control, in the context of the provision of Sentinel3 operational services. Ideal candidate The Key person shall have a university degree or equivalent in an engineering discipline relevant to the job profile together with the experience and capability to fulfill the assigned tasks without supervision. You shall have the following background At least 3 years experience defining and executing spacecraft and related ground segment system operations At least 3 years experience operating andor maintaining spacecraft monitoring and control systems based on SCOS2000 and employing the Packet Utilisation Standards PUS At least 3 years experience developing andor maintaining spacecraft mission control systems software for a platform based on the Linux operating system. At least 2 years experience defining and implementing the verification and validation of spacecraft mission control systems software At least 2 years experience of spacecraft and ground segment operations preparation and early operations activities, including operations procedure development and system validation, and commissioning You should be able to provide standbycallout support, if required, to report to the Mission Control Centre. In addition, it would be distinctly advantageous to have experience of the following Low Earth Orbit LEO spacecraft and related ground segment system operations, in particular for ERS, SPOT, Envisat andor Metop Network Data Interface Unit NDIU systems and their operation in support of the interface between the MCS and TTC ground stations Satellite simulator maintenance andor operation, preferably including the Portable Satellite Simulator PSS Maintenance of satellite onboard software.
