JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks Do you have an engineering degree and want to progress your career in the area of mission planning operations engineering? GMV is a key supplier of mission planning systems for EUMETSAT, we also supports onsite operations. Join a winning team in Darmstadt. As a part of a team, you are going to be involved in mission planning operations for all EUMETSAT missions, both operational and developing. Concerning the developing missions, support the transition from the preoperational to the routine operations phase, during which more intense development of operational processes and system configuration will be required. Qualifications Academic degree University degree in Computer Science, Physics, Telecommunications or similar Level of English Advanced Technical knowledge Experience of LEO andor GEO spacecraft and ground segment operations, preferably gained in an operational control room in EUMETSAT. Experience in the field of mission planning, gained during the operations andor development of GEO andor LEO satellite systems. Some evidence of software technology skills in programming languages such as Java or similar language, on LINUXUNIX andor MS Windows. Experience of working proactively within a small team. Ability to detail and synthesise complex technical concepts in formal documents and verbal presentations. Evidence of personal initiative and action orientation in professional experience. Desiderable knowledge Experience in the production and maintenance of mission planning operational rules using a Javalike Business Rules Management System e.g. JBoss Drools or ILOG Rules. Experience of LEO or GEO mission planning system specification, development and procurement. Experience of AIV related activities test procedure generation, requirements verification and validation, etc., preferably in the field of space mission planning systems. Practical experience with Software Version Control Systems e.g. CVS, SVN or Git and Software Configuration Management Systems e.g. Serena Dimensions. Some knowledge of CCSDS standards applicable to Mission Planning scheduling operations e.g. Simple Schedule File Format Specification and applicable CrossSupport standards. Practical experience with the LinuxUnix operating system user command level. Working experience with relational databases and sql, preferably involving Oracle. Position Reference 568 You will have the opportunity to be involved in mission planning operations for all missions, both operational and developing, and to deliver services supporting the routine operations of current missions EPS, Sentinel3, MSG and the preparation for routine operations of future missions EPSSG, Sentinel6, MTG. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Performing routine, oncall, and contingency scheduling tasks using the mission planning facilities. Liaising with external entities in order to fulfil joint operations requirements and maintaining documentation concerning this. Responding to mission planning related anomalies and operational contingencies. Performing monitoring of the mission planning systems according to working practice, generally by running system checks to spot any system anomalies or errors. Raising, monitoring and steering the lifecycle of mission planning related anomaly reports ARs and nonconformance reports NCRs. Supplying context and analysis to support the investigation of anomalies. Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews longterm scheduling, schedule consolidation, anomaly review boards, etc.. Defining the mission planning operational implementation rules, database configuration, etc. and maintaining a detailed understanding of the space and ground segment operational needs that are met through mission planning. Updating and rolling out of new versions of the mission planning operational implementation following approved configuration management procedures. Maintaining mission planning documentation such as the user guide, operational implementation document, joint operations document, ICDs, and any other operational documentation. Supporting the Operations Preparation Integrated Team OPIT in the development and procurement of the mission planning application software and any related tools developing missions only. Participating in reviews concerning the mission planning system, interfacing facilities and associated tools, throughout the procurement lifecycle developing missions only Contributing to the definition of any changes to the supplied mission planning application software or to inhouse supporting software that could lead to performance andor ergonomics improvements. Contributing to the process of implementing such changes by raising of engineering change proposals and change requests internally within EUMETSAT. Participating in the installation of the mission planning application software and related tools at EUMETSAT if required. Verifying the installation. Contributing to the operational validation of new versions of the mission planning software, including testing of ARNCR correction, new functionality and nonregression. This may include participating in factory or onsite acceptance testing and related activities at facility and system level. If necessary, creating and executing test procedures to support this activity. Analysing reporting on test results, in particular with respect to requirement verification and validation. Training of personnel in mission planning, oncall and routine scheduling tasks. Performing routine scheduling tasks at the BUCC in support of periodic or emergency activations. You have a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. You have knowledge of the principles of satellite monitoring and control. You have experience in the field of mission planning, gained during the operations andor development of GEO andor LEO satellite systems. You have experience of LEO andor GEO spacecraft operations, preferably gained in an operational control room environment. You have some evidence of software technology skills in programming languages such as Java or similar language, on LINUXUNIX andor MS Windows. TASKS The Mission Control System Engineer shall work on multiple projects and assignments, leading all the internal technical activities with an high degree of autonomy during all the subsystem lifecycle, from the specification up to the operations phase.
