SPECIFIC TASKS The Galileo Project System Engineer will report to the Head of the Galileo Project Management Support Office. Tasks and activities include System Engineering in all phases of spacecraft projects. A range of support tasks is required to be carried out in system engineering and subsystem domains, including early throughout implementation phases of space projects, in particular for small demonstration missions and education projects. This includes validation of design, support to implementation and testing phases, generation and monitoring of missionsystem level specifications. Support development contracts regarding the above areas, and act as the activity technical responsible. Maintain interfaces with the prime contractors. Participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and results. When supporting projects, heshe shall interface with ESAs project teams, the prime and lower level contractors. REQUIREMENTS University Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering. Relevant experience as engineer, with at least 4 years in the aerospace field. Expert knowledge of SC system and mission design, incl. system design modelling tools and Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design. Knowledge of System of Systems SoS architecting and related tools such as System Architect, Focal Point, etc. and frameworks e.g. MODAF, TOGAF. Knowledge and practice in the application of ESA SE Standards e.g. ECSSE10 series and SW engineering. They should possess sound judgment have integrity and good communications skills. The selected key person will contribute to all aspects relevant to the system performance of the Biomass mission up to Level 1 To be confirmed products in the context of the design and implementation activities undertaken in the frame of the Biomass Project. This includes project internal activities and monitoringreview of the relevant industrial activities. Responsibilities and role Requirement Engineering Support the maintenance and coherence of system level requirements including Mission observation, Biomass EndtoEnd simulator BEEPS and Ground Processor Prototype GPP, external and internal calibration, ITU and RFI protection requirements. The System Performance Engineer will cooperate closely with the Biomass payload team in the execution of the relevant tasks. Furthermore shehe will be supported by and is expected to closely cooperate with specialist engineers from the Biomass team, from the Earth Observation System Support Division and from the Directorate of Technical and Quality Management DTEC as appropriate. The incumbent will provide regular reporting to the Biomass System and Mission Performance Manager. Requirements Applicants for this post should have a university degree Masters or higher or equivalent qualification in a relevant physical science or engineering subject, together with a demonstrated background and experience in SAR systems, SAR performancecalibration and SAR processing, preferably acquired in a space project environment. Background and experience on the specific issues relevant to low frequency, fullpol SAR systems is an asset. The candidate must possess solid analytical skills and the command of the physics and techniques of SAR systems, together with the capability to critically analyse the work performed by industry in the relevant areas, identify problems and proposeinstigate corrective actions. The candidate shall demonstrate to be proficient with programming tools and languages relevant to the implementation and maintenance of the system performance models e.g. MATLAB, Python. The recruitment process will consist of an initial telephone discussion andor a video call followed by presentation of your candidature to ESA. If selected for interview, a face to face onsite technical assessment will be conducted by ESA with the result being either a go or no go.
