We are looking for a System Operations Engineer mfd Galileo Second Generation to work at ESTEC in Noordwijk, NL. Your Tasks The primary areas of responsibility for this position consists in the definition of the System Operations concepts and requirements for the next generation of Galileo, through active interfacing with System and Segments design experts, to ensure that the system functionalities and performances fulfil the mission objectives of the new Galileo generation. The candidate will be primarily assigned to the System Operations Engineering of the Galileo Second Generation supporting at the same time other missions e.g. Galileo First Generation within the Galileo programme. The general activities to be provided by the candidate depending on the phase of the mission are Define and maintain the System Operations project documentation for the next Generation of Galileo, including the System Level Operations Concept, both CLA and UNCLA and the Operations Service Requirement Document. Particular focus is expected on the compatibility analysis between the new generation of Galileo Satellites and the Ground Segment evolutions, the new planning functionalities as well as operations automation and monitoring and control aspects Identify the required Operational Improvements to be injected in the new system functional architecture definition, based on a systematic analysis of the lessons learned derived from the Galileo first generation Interface the System design experts within the Project to ensure that the system functionalities and performances fulfil the new mission objectives and operability requirements for all the different mission scenarios and system operating modes Based on the operations concept evolution and lessons learned analysis, derive operability requirements in support of the System and Segment requirements definition and consolidation Support the Galileo Project Office on the interactions with the Galileo GNSS Supervisory Authority Agency GSA for the definition of operational needs coming from service requirements Active participation to Galileo Evolution Engineering Boards, System and Segments Working Groups Active participation to Galileo System and Segments Project Reviews and coordination of the interaction between the operations team and the Galileo Project Office Your Profile Essential Requirements Advanced knowledge of the current Galileo system and its expected evolution. Proven experience in operations engineering analysis of mission requirements, operational feasibility, identification of main operational drivers and definition of system operational concepts to support both ground mission control system and satellite design to ensure that the overall system functionalities and performances fulfil the mission objectives and operability requirements. Good understanding of mission control systems integration and verification, including the integration and testing of the individual ground elements up to the progressive integration and acceptance of the whole system and related interfaces. Advanced knowledge of the current Galileo operational processes related to operations preparation, validation and execution and related interfaces. Proven experience in engineering coordination tasks and capability to interface system design experts at both Project and Industry support level. Good communication skills and the ability to carry on activities and interact in a complex teamwork environment. Good practical and analytical skills are also required. Position Reference 026 You will have the opportunity to contribute to activities mainly corresponding to various stages of the Detailed Design Phase C of a given programme under definition and development, and Phase D Implementation and Validation, as contribution to Integration, Verification and Validation. The main emphasis is on the payload data ground segment of the EPSSG programme. This covers payload data acquisition ground stations and data processing elements. This position will be based in Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Requirements engineering in DOORS. This includes review, specification and refinement of existing requirements, their uptraces to parent Ground Segment specifications, justifications and verification methods Support to the procurement of payload data acquisition processing elements by advising on technical solutions proposed by the responsible contractors, and by reviewing documentation to confirm its compliance with the requirements Refinement of ICDs, especially those between payload data acquisition processing elements and other GS functions Support to the preparation and execution of the testing, integration and acceptance of procured elements Support to the installation of ground segment elements at sites, and their integration into the overall Ground Segment system Verification and validation IVV of the integrated Ground Segment Review of System, Space Segment and Ground Segment documentation dealing with requirements, concepts, algorithms and technical analyses of relevance for data processing, including review of calibration concepts defined by the Space Segment with emphasis on their implications on Ground Segment data processing concepts, interfaces and architecture Participation in formal reviews and technical meetings at System and Ground Segment level. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. You have at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in the areas and disciplines stated You have experience in system engineering practices and processes, especially in the field of space systems engineering, including knowledge of ECSS standards and system life cycle processes You have extensive experience in ground segments for large and complex Earth Observation missions, including processing software You have experience in management and traceability of complex requirements structures and the management of their verification via VCDs You have experience in the preparation of ground segment documentation relating to requirements engineering, design, and IVV planning and execution. You have demonstrated experience in the above, with emphasis on overall systems engineering aspects of ground segments or IVV of ground segments. You are fluent in English. You are able to maintain a system overview. You should have a systematic approach to the work, and be able to plan the work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You are able to write accurate and consistent technical documentation is essential, as is the ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context.
