We are looking for a Communication Systems Technologies Engineer E3 to join our Ajilon Technology Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands Ajilon Technology Aerospace is a specialized Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace Engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Ajilon is a longstanding business partner of the European Space Agency ESA, with more than 115 employees recruited from across Europe currently supporting ESAs activities. Specific tasks to be performed Satellite modem physical and link layer analysis, design, prototyping and testing SATCOM Systems and network analysis and simulations Support the preparation of the section RD technology roadmaps in the area of telecom systems and networks Support the section telecom lab activities General tasks to be performed Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA RD. Activities and contracts technical followup. Specific engineering support to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering with particular emphasis on digital communication system and subsystem techniques, highspeed processing techniques for communication via satellites. Strong technical background in telecommunication engineering and knowledge of the relevant communication protocols. Strong knowledge and experience in the simulation of complex telecom links at physical and MAC layers. Broad technical expertise in telecommunication networks design with particular emphasis on physical and link layer, and good understanding of multiple access telecommunication protocols. Knowledge of the main satellite and wireless terrestrial telecom standards Experience with communication system HW prototyping and testing e.g. FPGA, DSP, GPU, microprocessors. Experience in analysis and design of modern digital communication systems, coding and synchronization issues. Familiarity with modern communication system and subsystem simulation techniques, as a minimum Matlab and CC program languages. Knowledge of modern prototyping and testing methodologies for digital communication subsystems is also preferred. About ESAESTEC The European Space Agency ESA has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands. At ESTEC, about 2500 engineers, technicians and scientists work handson with mission design, spacecraft and space technology. Almost all ESA projects except launchers are managed from ESTEC. In Noordwijk, people work on science missions, manned space missions, Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation satellites. ESTEC provides extensive testing facilities to verify the proper operation of spacecraft, such as the Large Space Simulator LSS, acoustic and electromagnetic testing bays, multiaxis vibration tables and the ESA Propulsion Laboratory EPL. Founded in mid2017, we have secured longterm funding and successfully demonstrated several novel prototypes related to laser transmission and efficient perpendicular solar concentration. Our mission is to make 10x more data download possible to meet the demand from the growing satellites market, especially smallsats, delivering more data from the earth orbit to the ground at higher speed. Role Responsibilities We are passionate about innovation and driven to find new concepts for communications architectures. An opportunity to join this exciting team is available for an innovative, ambitious and experienced talent with a strong background in Optical Design Engineering and technical leadership to drive this forward and augment our rapidly growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for endtoend design of optical subsystems as well as simulation development of optical systems from concept all the way through to manufacture. Specific job responsibilities include but not limited to Integration and demonstration for a laser communication terminal. Ownership of design documentation for optical subsystems. Aiding in requirements and architecture definition including trade analysis. Working with AIT engineer to define and implement assembly and integration, and test procedures for optical subsystems Interested applicants may also consider starting first as a fixedterm consultant while rolling into a permanent role although this is less preferred. Required skills experience Experience designing and developing optical systems within the space industry, using Zemax with system optimisation Sequential, nonsequential desirable. Experience with optical calibration and alignment, and procedure definition. Optomechanical design and analysis for mass constrained systems. Integration of optical systems into products, payloads. Validation and verification of optical systems including testing. Understanding of key performance characteristics of laser, receiver for optical communication.Experience with requirements definition and tradeoff analysis for optical systems. Familiarityawareness of laser safety, regulations and clean room maintenance. Educated to degree level or equivalent in applied optics or Physics optics and 3 years related work experience. Positive attitude and, selfdriven and interested in working in a startup environment.Independent, quick learner, can structure and show initiatives to thoroughly evaluate and solve problems from different angles. Desirable additional skillsexperience Hands on lab experience working with IR lasers. Experience designing for manufacture. Strong focus on delivery. Role responsibilities We are looking for an innovative, reliable and experienced 25 years Aerospace Product Assurance Quality Assurance PAQA Manager to ensure high output quality aiming to the longterm success of our business and augment our rapidly growing team. Generally speaking your presence should help us delivering great, reliable products services that may even set new industry standards! The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a PA process within our startup, improving industrial processes, product qualitycompliance, and maintaining efficiency. Your duties will include inspecting procedures and outputs, and identifying mistakes or nonconformity issues, and organizing the verification of product. You should have solid experience in quality control together with great attention to details, and be able to make professional conclusions about the quality of products and services. Examples of job responsibilities include but not limited to Develop methods for inspection, testing, sampling and training. Review design documentation for compliance with contract requirements. Substantial work experience of a scientific, engineering or technical nature involving data analysis and statistical methods. Proficient with MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel. Educated to degree level or equivalent in STEM subject or equivalent. Strong numerical skills, with great attention to detail and a results. Experience working on Cubesat projects, UAV, HAPS projects.
