NREL releases report card on environmental efforts.

NREL continued to improve its environmental protection efforts at its South Table Mountain and National Wind Technology Center sites during 2014 by reducing GHG emissions, adding bird-safety features to campus structures, and assessing environmental impacts of potential laboratory development. Annual Sustainability Report reveals that NREL saw increase in number of employees using vehicles powered by alternative fuels or taking public transit, and decrease in people driving to work alone.

Alliance Announces Dr. Martin Keller as its new NREL director.

As announced by Alliance for Sustainable Energy (Alliance), Dr. Martin Keller has been appointed as director of National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and president of Alliance. Keller will officially join NREL in said role on November 30, 2015. Martin succeeds Dan E. Arvizu, who served in that role for 10+ years. Alliance Board co-chairs Ron Townsend and Tom Fleener praised Keller's leadership, team building and outcome production capabilities, and industry relationships.

Little Box Challenge Inverters arrive at NREL.

During the Little Box Challenge, presented by Google and IEEE Power Electronics Society, 18 finalist teams converged at NREL to have their power inverters tested as part of a $1 million competition to build smaller devices for use in solar power systems. Test results will help Google and IEEE decide the winner. To be successful, teams will have designed and built a residential-scale inverter with the highest power density — at least 50 W/cubic inch.
