NREL Tool finds small battery systems offer attractive ROI.
2015-03-16 13:31:10| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
NREL has used the Battery Lifetime Analysis and Simulation Tool to confirm that energy storage for demand-charge management can deliver attractive economic benefits. Analysis paired recent utility rate structures with historic data on solar photovoltaic electricity generation and commercial facility loads to evaluate 6,860 unique scenarios. Results revealed that, in absence of incentives, small battery systems reducing peak demand by 2.5% offer the most attractive return on investment.

NREL Science is crucial to success of new biofuels plants.
2015-02-26 14:31:41| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
NREL played crucial role in technology that led DuPont, POET, and Abengoa to open commercial-scale facilities to turn biomass into clean transportation fuels. Companies turned to NREL for biofuels expertise—POET for pretreatment, Abengoa for compositional analysis, and DuPont for crucial steps in process. Combined, facilities are helping meet Department's goals of producing clean energy from non-food parts of plants, creating jobs, mitigating GHGs, and boosting America's energy security.
