Also, NREL celebrated 43 U.S. patents issued – largest in lab history and near 3X previous year – in fiscal year 2014. Min Zhang was named Distinguished Innovator, while Rising Star awards winners included Chuck Booten, who works in buildings and thermal systems, and John Simon, who works in materials applications and performance.

Shared solar could lead to cumulative U.S. PV deployment growth of 5.5-11.0 gigawatts from 2015–2020 and represent $8.2–16.3 billion of cumulative investment.
