Location ECSAT, Harwell, United Kingdom or ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Ground Segment Engineer in the Ground Segment Section, Technologies and Products Division, Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Systems Department, Directorate of Telecommunications and Integrated Applications. The postholder will report to the Head of the Ground Segment Section and will be responsible for the management of activities related to telecommunication ground and user segment technology and products. Duties Specific duties include initiating and managing ARTES Core Competitiveness CC contracts and activities related to telecommunication ground and user technology and product development. supporting the implementation of ARTES ScyLight activities. supporting activities of other ARTES programme elements and the creation and implementation of ARTES projects. collaborating with specialists in the other ESA organisational units, as required to ensure an effective initiation and management of activities. reporting regularly on the progress, status, schedule and outcome of ARTES activities, including realistic forecasting of milestone completion dates. identifying and definining ground and user segment needs for future satellite communication applications. supporting the preparation of the ARTES work plans. supporting the establishment and control of relevant ESA programmatic requirements, specifications and general documentation, including processes, tools and templates. supporting the promotion of the ARTES CC programme and the ARTES socioeconomic impact analysis. Experience in ground and user segment technology and equipment as well as subsystem design and development is required. Experience in the satellite telecommunication industry would be a distinct advantage. Education Applicants for this post should have a masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests. Do you have the engineering skills to support the development and upgrade of our ground stations software, including monitoring and control applications for future satellite systems, in particular the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation EPSSG? Developing the next generation of satellites, we look to shape our future including our ground station infrastructure. These activities have opened up an opportunity for a Ground Stations Software Engineer to join our System Engineering and Projects Division. In this role you will be responsible for providing engineering support to the development and upgrades of ground stations software and monitoring and control applications. You will be involved in the definition of concepts, analysis and tradeoffs the design, engineering and management of technical requirements in accordance with EUMETSAT processes assisting in the management of industrial development contracts the support and follow up of design and development activities supervising and supporting integration, verification and validation testing activities supporting anomaly review boards, configuration management and relevant quality assurance processes You will also support routine operations and associated maintenance and evolution activities. Besides, you will contribute to the definition and implementation of a longterm strategy for effective maintenance of ground stations software applications and localremote monitoring and control systems. Along with a university degree in Software Engineering Computer Science or equivalent, you should be able to demonstrate a track record in developing, testing and longterm maintenance of ground segment subsystems for Earth observation missions, preferably on software engineering and Mission and Control applications an ability to use C, Java and XML in an operational environment experience in Configuration Control processes related to software applications strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to apply these to the interactions within a team and between teams. Experience in managing requirements throughout development using formal methodstools, knowledge of engineering and design standards, data base applications and related configuration control mechanisms and of remote mission and control applications would be considered advantageous.
