The Earth, Navigation and Science directorate ENS undertakes the design and production of Earth Observation, Navigation Science satellites systems. Some of ENS current projects are NovaSARS, a Synthetic Aperture RADAR satellite system, Galileo, a Global Navigation Satellite System and MetOp Second Generation, a major meteorological mission. The ENS ground systems group requires a bright, enthusiastic and talented graduate engineer with a strong interest in systems engineering and the ability to learn rapidly. The successful candidate will be involved in a wide spectrum of projects within ENS. The role requires an engineer who is able to quickly understand the scientific and mathematical content within a project and be able to translate this understanding into algorithmic implementations. A high attention to detail is essential. Main activities of the role may include Requirements analysis and system design for complex systems Software development Modelling scientific processes using Matlab or equivalent modelling tool Generate engineering lifecycle artefacts such as formal test procedures and test results in line with the agreed engineering process and perform duties to support the engineering process Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within a project context Support to satellite operations As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following Essential attributes At minimum, a 21 degree or equivalent qualification in Physics, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Aerospace Engineering or related subject. Understanding of system engineering design principles Experience of complex algorithm implementation Strong IT skills including software development Evidence of strong interest in systems engineering and the space industry Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Be proactive and comfortable working both autonomously and as part of a team. Desirable attributes Experience of system modelling e.g. UMLSysML Experience of scientific research Matlab or equivalent numerical processing language Programming languages CCJava UnixLinux Operating system familiarity Scripting languages e.g. shell scripts, perl, python etc Understanding of communications systems This role will be based in Portsmouth and will receive the full Airbus Defence Space Graduate programme benefit package including an annual Salary of 27,000, plus a welcome payment of 2,000. We are recruiting for a Ground Segment Systems Engineer to be based within our System Engineering and Projects Division SEP. In this role you will be responsible for ground segment system engineering and architectural detailed design support to various EUMETSAT satellite system development programmes MeteosatThird Generation, EPSSecond Generation and JasonCS, and other ground segment projects, including participation in the assembly and integration testing AIT and verification and validation VV of complex ground segments. As an expert in ground segment system engineering your role will be pivotal in specifying, defining and consolidating ground segment requirements and in deciding how these can best be delivered. You will be relied upon for your expertise and will be asked to contribute to architectural and detailed design activities. You will further support the definition and management of ground segment interfaces. Technical budgets will form an essential part of your role and you will be required to update records and design justification documents as you go. You will be involved in the technical analysis of changes to help drive our organisation forward, looking at their likely impact on systems. You will also be required to support AIT and VV testing of complex ground segments e.g. for MeteosatThird Generation, EUMETSAT Polar System of SecondGeneration and JasonCS. Alongside a university degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience experience in ground segment system engineering following wellestablished system engineering processes covering the full development and maintenance lifecycle, and relevant technical standards, tools and methodologies e.g. ECSS, model based systems engineer MBSE experience of managing requirements from the definition phase through the maintenance, traceability, verification and validation stages using formal methods and tools e.g. DOORS experience in the area of Ground Segment VV andor AIT activities sound experience in the technical coordination of teams and projects strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of complex issues in a structured manner outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these within a team environment in a matrix organisation.
