Informational Wi-Fi traffic can be used as covert communication channel for malware
2014-11-07 02:07:54| Wireless - Topix.net
A security researcher has developed a tool to demonstrate how the unauthenticated data packets in the 802.11 wireless LAN protocol can be used as a covert channel to control malware on an infected computer. The protocol relies on clients and access points exchanging informational data packets before they authenticate or associate with each other, and this traffic is not typically monitored by network security devices.

WireLurker: A new breed of iOS and OS X malware that has infected thousands
2014-11-06 15:21:00| Extremetech

Even more remarkably, WireLurker is surprisingly virulent, possibly already infecting hundreds of thousands of iOS and OS X users. While OS X malware isn't that rare, it's almost unheard of for iOS to be susceptible to such attacks -- and no, even if your device isn't jailbroken, you can still be infected.
