The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The key person shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the UNIX operating systems, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following system software environments on IBM Systems AIX 6.1 7.1 on IBM pSeries, Bladecenters and PureFlex Systems very good experience on IBM virtualization, including MicroPartitioning, LPAR, VIOS Administration and configuration of IBM pSeries, Bladecenters and PureFlex Systems using HMC and AMM high availability software IBM PowerHA and cluster file system GPFS Ability to perform endtoend system changes from requirements to testing and documentation Good experience with the monitoring tool Nagios Ability to write technical documentation in English NICETOHAVE SKILLS CONSIDERED AS AN ADVANTAGE Experience in the installation, administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be considered as an advantage SUN HW Solaris DELL HW Linux RAID arrays EMC SAN Brocade Backup and recovery systems IBM certifications It is also an advantage if the key person can carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills together with the ability to effectively cooperate within the team and with internal customers. TASKS As a member of the Computer Systems Management team, the key person shall provide support to all Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the UNIXbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. LSE Space is looking for an experienced Engineer mf in order to fulfill the duty of UNIX System Software EngineeringSupport for our customer EUMETSAT in DarmstadtGermany. The TCE is an UNIXbased multiplatform server environment that is used for engineering and scientific work. It provides essential service functions in support to EUMETSAT operations like the collection and storage of statistical data. Currently it consists of about 15 UNIX servers, 250 TB of online disk storage, an independent network and integrated backup services. There are some 250 users of the system which are accessing the servers and the disk storage from their offices via Linux Workstations that are used in parallel to the office computer infrastructure. It offers a wide range of operating systems, compilers, linkers, data analysis software and other tools that are needed for software development, data analysis and data storage. It also hosts the development environment for most of the operational ground segments. The system is undergoing constant upgrade. Currently the system is converted into a local Cloud providing most of the services by virtual services and other virtual resources. The following activities shall be performed installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimise performance analysis, planning and carrying out of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and carrying out the relevant corrective actions provision of firstlevel support to the users of the system ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, carrying out of backup procedures coordination with shared infrastructures, e.g. networks, storage network infrastructure SNI, for operations and maintenance liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration and installation of databases administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilisation of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support if needed under special circumstances provision of support, as required, to critical operations.
