Job description Our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, is an intergovernmental organization supplying climaterelated satellite data, images and products 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to national meteorological services in Europe and other users worldwide. We are seeking an experienced Data Storage Services System Software Engineer to provide support to EUMETSAT in the development and maintenance of the storage systems making up EUMETSATs Storage Network Infrastructure SNI, with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The EUMETSAT SNI provides a backbone of storage services to all EUMETSATs programs, unified under a management framework. It satisfies storage service requirements in terms of size, performance, redundancy, availability, security, supporting meteorological archive, data protection and disaster recovery. Responsibilities As a Data Storage Services System Software Engineer, your tasks will include the administration and operation of the central archive systems, maintenance of the external storage, inventory and support to the operation of the storage services. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following tasks Monitoring of the facility services, storage and archive performance, investigation into HW and SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions Ensuring that in case of HW or SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backuparchive procedures Liaison with the external providers of HW and SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between storage subsystems Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of associated technical documentation Provision of support to design future evolution of the facility to accommodate the requirements of current and future programs, generation and maintenance of associated documentation Always apply the relevant change management control and maintenance procedures You will be required to prepare, coordinate and communicate in advance and in detail critical activities, to be shared for review and approval prior to the actual execution of the work. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, you will have minimum of 5 years experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. Client and Location For one of our main customers, EUMETSAT, we are currently looking for consultancy support for a full time Copernicus S3 ground system operations engineer position to provide consultancy in the area of System External Interfaces to support The routine operations phase of the sentinel3A satellite The operations preparation, commissioning and subsequent routine operations of sentinel3B The procurement of Sentinel3 C and D. The consultant shall be integrated into the Sentinel3 System Operations Team, within Real Time Services and System Operations Division of the Operations and User Services Department. The consultancy support will be to provide system operations engineering support, covering all spacecraft interface and flight operations aspects of the S3 Ground Segment, as well as the operational service monitoring and control. Tasks and responsibilities The consultant shall provide support to the development and operation of the Copernicus Sentinel3 Ground Segment, as well as its evolution.
