Job description For our customer, ESAESTEC, we are seeking an experienced Galileo System and Service Operations Engineer, to work within the Galileo Project Office at ESTEC, Nordwijk, The Netherlands. Galileo is Europes global navigation satellite system, which will provide a highly accurate global positioning service under civilian control. The Galileo system is currently being brought into operation, with the constellation of orbiting satellites becoming established. The ESA Galileo Project Office, based at ESTEC, The Netherlands, oversees the overall programme and ensures that the various elements of the Galileo system are in place ready to support Galileo services. In this position you will be assigned to the System and Flight Operations Unit of the Galileo Operations Procurement Service Division and will report to the Head of System and Flight Operations Section. Responsibilities As an Galileo System and Service Operations Engineer you will be assigned to the System and Flight Operations Unit of the Galileo Operations Procurement Service Division and will report to the Head of System and Flight Operations Section. TASKS As a member of RSO, the Copernicus S3 System and Services Operations Engineer SSyOE shall provide support to the operation of the S3 Ground System, as well as its evolution. Main duties within the S3 programme will include the support to System operations in a realtime operations environment Endtoend operations monitoring Operational interfaces within the ground segment, and to external partners, including maintenance of operational documentation JORP, OICDs, procedures etc. Communications systems operations Security operations Infrastructure operations and evolution Multimission operations, including mass storage and archiving System Evolutions Manual and Automated system and satellite operations including planning and scheduling. The role comprises a range of tasks including the provlSlon of support to the routine operation of the S3 ground segment, as well as its evolution to include new functionality and system operations. The SSyOE will be responsible for the definition andor maintenance of the routine operations procedures pertaining to system operations and the interfaces of the key systems within the ground segment, in accordance with the established EUMETSAT Operations Department configuration management and quality assurance practices. The SSyOE will acquire and maintain a Systemwide view of the EUMETSAT ground segments, wherever this could impact the S3 ground segment. The SSyOE will review any planned changes to the system configurations for the S3 ground segments, and support the investigation of anomalies encountered through the routine system and ground segment operations. The SSyOE will provide support to the operations preparation for recurrent S3 satellites into the existing systems. The SSyOE will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade, where this affects the S3 ground segment and system operations. The SSyOE will perform the following routine operations tasks Definition and maintenance of system operations procedures, including System and ground segment procedures and operations guides Definition and maintenance of JORPs and OICDs with external partners Liaison with the spacecraft operations team to ensure the continuity and optimisation of spacecraft monitoring and control activities Liaison and coordination with the ground segment facility operations teams and system operations analysts to ensure the continuity and optimisation of ground segment and mission operations through procedure and operations guide updates, configuration changes, database or user interface changes etc. Interface and coordination with the systems maintenance teams and industry representatives to ensure optimised performance, including participating in the definition and implementation of any changes Provision of support to operational ground segment analyses Provision of standbyoncall support as system operations engineer, on an as needed basis. This will be coordinated through the normal oncall process Provision of support, as required, to critical operations Processing and coordination of system anomalies, their documentation, investigation, classification and resolutionmitigation, including participation in Anomaly Review Boards Participation in technical meetings, formal reviews, and scheduling and planning meetings Processing and coordination of system modifications, including their documentation, approval, and implementation, including participation in Change Review Boards Support to, and participation in, the functional verification and operational validation of system upgrades and evolutions, both standalone and in the context of the overall S3 ground segment.
