Operations Engineer for Science Missions Ground Segment and Operations Services Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. This is an opportunity a qualified OperationsSystem Engineer to work in the space domain. This position is based in Germany, Darmstadt fully on customer side at ESOC. The position is a limited part time position 20hr per week until 31st of December there are very high chances that starting from January 2015onwards this position will evolve into a permanent fulltime position. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES Operations service provision in the area of operations support for future Science missions Review of operational concepts and design descriptions Module and unit level reviews, when required Review of ground segment design Review of ground segment, satellite and instrument operations procedures and automation Review of mission planning concepts Contribution to ground segment specifications and other project level documents. Review of RF link budgets and contribution to communication concepts. Support to the generation of operations concept documents and mission assumptions documents Organizational support, e.g. support of review logistics, planning documents, etc. The envisaged science missions to be supported are CHEOPS project support for non ESOC ground operations PHOOTPRINT INSPIRE ATHENA Plato CDF studies potentially PHOOTPRINT in cooperation with NASA, ATHENA, SPICA, NASAJPL to Europa, ESACAS QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE The candidate should have a University degree or equivalent education in Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. ESSENTIAL SKILLS Experience in working in an operational environment Knowledge of satellite or ground operations Service provision will be exclusively in English Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel DESIRABLE SKILLS Familiarity with operations planning and validation Familiarity with operational simulators and control systems Experience with RF link budgets and communication concepts Experience with mission planning Familiarity with the ESOC working environment Familiarity with SEOSAT operations procedures and or with spacecraft based on the same spacecraft bus. Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team building aspects Experience in review participation Experience in space documentation preparation Basic knowledgeexperience in the functioning of science instruments. The Key Person will provide support to the development and operations preparation for recurrent satellites in existing operational programs e.g. MetopC and MSG4, and for future operational programs now in development including Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG. The key person will interface with project teams on the implementation of system upgrades to support major operations projects, including System MidTerm Evolution Plan, recurrent satellites, and any System hardware and operating system obsolescence upgrade.
