The Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity SMOS mission was launched in November 2009, and is currently under extension until end 2016. The Payload Operations Engineer will report to the Head of the Earth Explorer Management Office, based in ESOC. The incumbent will carry out payload operations activities, which include the following tasks preparing and executing the SMOS payload mission planning and operations during the mission, including anomaly recovery and management and coordinating the operations as needed with the CNES Mission Operations Team maintaining the Flight Operations Procedures, Payload Data Base and Payload Onboard Operations Procedures during the mission assisting the Head of the Earth Explorer Management Office in the management of the Flight Operations Segment maintenance contract, including any evolution of the ground systems to ensure the continuation of the mission participation in Quality Working Groups and workshops to further enhance the mission, supporting the ESRIN Mission Manager interfacing with the CNES Mission Operations Team, and industry for technical matters related to any anomalies or payload operations evolution as a result of satellite systems degradation providing training to and technically managing the other engineers provided by industrial contract working as part of the SMOS payload operations team.
