Venus Express Spacecraft Operations Engineer TTC

Thorn is looking for an experienced Spacecraft Operations engineer to provide operations support primarily for the Telemetry and Telecommanding Subsystem TTC. We are looking for candidates who are available from May 2013 or as soon as possible after May. As part of the Venus Express Mission Control Team based at ESOC in Darmstadt, the position has the following responsibilities Support the Power and Thermal subsystems platform and also act as back up of at least one of the following spacecraftground subsystems AOCS, Data Handling, Payload instrument Power Thermal Mission Control System Simulator or Mission Planning Working with the VEX Mission Planning System including the generation of long, medium and short term planning products on rotation shifts every 56 weeks approx The position requires you to be on call as an operations engineer supervising operations conduction, this will be approximately one week every 56 weeks approximately. You will be responsible for the writing and maintaining of operational procedures in MOIS and reports. You will be required to operate the VEX Mission Control System based on SCOS 2000 to monitor and control spacecraft operations you will be expected to take an active part in the relevant technical meetings and teleconferences. To be considered for this role it is vital you have the relevant skills and responsibilities, these are set out below You must have a University degree or equivalent in Spacecraft Engineering, Computer Science or related subject. You must have experience in TTC subsystems and RF You must have several years experience in spacecraft operations You must have a good working knowledge of SCOS 2000 You must be able to demonstrate good working experience with MOIS tools you must have experience in mission planning and operations automation You must be able to work as part of an international and interdisciplinary team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English is mandatory and knowledge of another European Language will be an advantage. Responsibilities Duties The objective of the Spacecraft Operations Engineer is the preparation, validation and execution of operations, related to the data handling, TTC and Payload subsystems. In detail, shehe is responsible for Flight Operations Procedures FOP preparation Writing of procedures Adapt procedures to new databases and procedures delivered by industry Definition of validation scenarios FOP validation, testing, result reporting Preparation of and participation in SVTs and simulations Test and validation of operational items like CSIM, ASW, ODB, SCCF, MOIS Participation in and provision of training spacecraft subsystems, Ops tools, Ops concepts Anomaly Reports handling writing, action processing, support of review boards Operations Support Support of routine, special and contingency operations during PF Commissioning, IOT and routine phase inclusive provision of shift and oncall support Provision of oncall service for the assigned subsystems during routine phase Offline analysis of the subsystem performance. Qualifications Experience Candidates should hold a University degree in Engineering or Physics. A basic knowledge of all spacecraft subsystems and detailed knowledge of the subsystems listed above are mandatory. Knowledge of and experience in navigation satellite systems, ideally Galileo related is an advantage. Essential Skills Experience in activities applicable to spacecraft operations Fluency in English, both in speech and writing Teamplayer, selfstarter, able to work independently with little supervision. Desirable Skills Familiarity with the ESA environment Familiarity with satellite control systems, e.g. SCOS2000 Familiarity with MOIS Some experience dealing with external interfaces Familiarity with operational simulators. The Engineer will require Personnel Security Clearance at least to SECRET level. If the Clearance is not yet available it can be requested after position assignment.
