The Mission Galileo is Europes future global navigation satellite system, providing a highly accurate global positioning service under civilian control. The launches of the constellation of Galileo spacecraft have begun, and the system is moving towards full operational capability in the coming years. With the Galileo system offering global navigation services to both the public and military, a critical aspect of the complete Galileo system is the security of operations of the system and spacecraft, to ensure that the system is protected from threats. The Challenge We are looking for a senior, highly experienced security systems engineer to be part of the Galileo Ground Segment Operations Security Unit inside the Galileo Security Office. The Galileo Security Office requires engineering support for monitoring and controlling the overall preparation and execution of the Galileo security operations activities, including the associated Public Regulated Service PRS User Segment activities. The holder of the post will support the Galileo Security Office in coordinating the definition, preparation, testing, validation, and implementation of the Galileo security operations for the system and security users to meet the overall Galileo security requirements. This concerns the security operations activities performed in the Galileo Control Centres Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany and Fucino, Italy, the Galileo remote stations, the Galileo external entities and the PRS User Communities. For day to day work you will report to the Head of the Galileo Ground Segment Operations Security Unit in order to provide regular support to the Galileo Operations Procurement Office. The responsibilities of this post include in particular Monitoring the Galileo Security Operations Engineering activities for the implementation of the System SECOPS including the associated SoC and VCD documents Monitoring the Galileo Security Operations Validation activities by ensuring readiness of security procedures for Satellite, Ground Segment and System Test Campaigns Monitoring the operational security interfaces to the Mission Level Operational entities Flight Key Cell, CDA, GSMC Ensuring the Security Operations readiness for GALILEO Services Provision Supporting the Galileo accreditation process as main interface between the industrial operations teams and the Mission Level Accreditation bodies Supporting the GALILEO Security Requirements and System Accreditation Unit by ensuring the flow down and implementation of the Mission Level Security Specifications Supporting the GALILEO Security Requirements and System Accreditation Unit by ensuring that the different Operations Contractors implement the Security Accreditation Methodology and associated outputs Threat Scenario Coverage both As Designed and As Built Coordinating the technical definition, implementation and validation of the operational security measures including ground and space assets coming from Risk Treatment Plans Supporting the Galileo Anomaly Review Boards and Configuration Control Boards in the area of Security Operational Activities Supporting the PRS User Communities with respect to the operational activities to be implemented as soon as the Galileo PRS signals are available to them. The detailed tasks to be allocated will depend on the specific skills of the selected candidate. Based at the European Space Agencys ESTEC establishment in The Netherlands, the work will require regular travelling to the different Galileo Sites and PRS User Communities. The working language is English. This is a full time position, starting 1st April 2013, with a minimum of 3 years duration with possible extension. Your Qualifications This position requires a person with university degree or equivalent education in Electric or Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Telecommunications Engineering. Applicants must hold an active security clearance by their national security administration and have previous experience in satellite and ground security operations involving classified and crypto equipment. You will have significant experience in a senior position for security operations related activities, with experience in management tasks. Proven experience in in a commercialindustrial environment is required. Experience related to developments in the Galileo project GIOVE, IOV, IOC will be considered an asset. Fluent written and spoken English is required. We are currently looking for a Science Operations Software Engineer for Gaia to support our customer in Spain. Science Operations Software Engineer for Gaia Key Tasks and Responsibilities In this role you will be working onsite at ESAC as part of the Gaia mission. The Gaia mission is planning to map to microarcsecond accuracy 1 of the stellar population of our galaxy that is around one thousand million objects. The data reduction of the 100 Terabytes of downlinked data is estimated to require a Petabyte storage system. The processing will be a community wide effort performed by the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium DPAC in which ESAC plays a coordination role. The ESAC team is forming Gaias Science Operations Centre SOC and is heavily involved in the overall architecture and the core processing which is distributed over five locations and ESAC will form the hub for data exchange via the Main Database. You will support ESA in developing science operations systems and tools, including System engineering and architectural design activities, including operating plans and procedures Designing, developing, implementing, testing, deploying, operating and maintaining software tools and systems, eg o observation proposal handling, mission planning and quicklook systems, parts of which may be distributed to the community, o user support tools, o interactive analysis and calibration systems, to be distributed as needed to the community for data reduction and analysis, o data processing pipelines, o Scientific data archives and interfacing these to the virtual observatory.
