The Mission The Global Monitoring for Environment and Security GMES initiative aims to develop a portfolio of services relevant to environmental and security issues with the highquality data, images and information through the use of a number of earth observations spacecraft. The Low earth orbit division is related in activities to the GMES initiative. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced System Engineer Monitoring and Control to be located at the customer site in Darmstadt, Germany to join Terma GmbHs activity to support our customers low earth orbit division in activities for the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security GMES initiative. The System Engineer tasksresponsibilities will include Maintenance of Sentinel3 monitoring and control requirement specifications and liaison with the operational users for the definition of the requirements baseline Follow up the Sentinel3 monitoring and control procurement to make sure that the delivery fits the intended purpose Support the Sentinel3 monitoring and control ground segment team and the flight operations segment manager Coordination with suppliers and partner organisations Participation to the reviews for the monitoring and control system and interfacing facilities Preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings Participation to Sentinel3 monitoring and control monitoring and control system facilities testing and related activities on facility as well as on system level Analysis of test results and test reports on facility as well as on system level in particular with respect to their suitability for requirement verification and validation Installation of the Sentinel3 monitoring and control monitoring and control system Assuring compliance with configuration management requirements Verification of correct facility installation Monitor and, where applicable, steer the lifecycle for all related anomaly reportsnonconformance reports Preparation and production of reports. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in of July 2013. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have an university degree, preferably in aerospace, electronics or physics or other suitable qualification together with some professional experience in spacecraft andor operational applications. Essential skills are A university degree in a relevant technical discipline 5 years professional experience in the specifications, development and procurement of a space mission control system 5 years in depth professional experience with a SCOS 2000 based mission control system 5 years experience with low Earth orbiting satellite monitoring and control 5 years experience with assembly, integration and validation related activities, such as test procedure generation, requirements verification and validation 5 years user experience with the UNIX operating system Fluency in English, both in speech and writing is mandatory. Desirable skills are Experience navigating sometimes delicate tasks involving interagency representation Knowledge of the ECSS space engineering standards, in particular those related to mission Control Experience with telemetry and telecommand database design, implementation and testing Background in operations preparation Practical familiarity with the MOIS spacecraft procedure tool Experience with routine operation of low Earth orbiting spacecraft Knowledge of on board software maintenance mechanism Familiarity with the CVS Version Control software Familiarity with the dimensions configuration control software Some basic ability with the French language. The Mission Our customer, ESA, develops ground software systems for supporting the spacecraft mission operations at its operations centre, ESOC, in Darmstadt, Germany. ESOC requires qualified software development, test and validation engineers to support the development of spacecraft mission control systems and operational spacecraft simulators. Such engineers support ESA staff in the process of developing and maintaining the operational systems in use, for example by supporting the definition the specifications, supporting formal validation of developed systems, and assisting end users, such as spacecraft operators, in utilizing the systems. The Challenge We are looking for software engineers to support development, test and validation of ESOC mission control systems and operational simulators. The engineers will have experience of Operational Mission Control Systems Operational Simulator Systems Mission Planning Systems ESOCs family of software infrastructure products. Engineers will be responsible for the definition, implementation, acceptance and maintenance of mission control systems. The following main tasks are involved Specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaigns and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the IT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. The work will be performed at the ESOC premises in Darmstadt, Germany. This is a fulltime position as a Terma employee for a placement at ESOC, with a planned starting date in April 2013. Your Qualifications Suitable candidates will hold a university degree MSc in Computer Science or similar, and have knowledge and experience in one or more of the following Knowledge of mission control systems, their environment and the relevant infrastructure. This includes areas such as mission planning, automation, operational database, archiving, data distribution, etc. Knowledge of operational simulators development andor use, in particular based on ESOCs software infrastructure SIMSAT Knowledge and experience in the ESOC software engineering methodology and standards Competence in computer languages such as C, C, Java, UML, XML, SQL Familiarity with using the ESOC software development environments and systems, including DOORS, HP Quality Centre, IBM Rational Change Familiarity with relevant operating systems, including Linux.
