Tasks and Responsibilities Specification, design, implementation, verificationvalidationqualification and documentation of technicalscientific software interfacing with external hardware Measurement Equipment, FPGA, realtime software, embedded software Development of automated test solution software Contributions to the system design and verification Participation in agile work organization and projectspecific reporting Experience and Education Degree in software or electrical engineering. 3 years of experience in the field of software development in smallmedium software projects. Expert in objectoriented software development with JAVA, Eclipse RCP e4. Good experiences in CC, XML programming, and Domain Specific Language Technology based on xTextxBase. Good experience in Logging, Storage and Replay Techniques using JAVA andor C. Familiar with in JNI Swig. Familiar with related programming language, e.g. Python and Matlab. Familiar with Agile development principles and tools, e.g. JIRA. Expert in Linux programming with CentOS 67 RHEL. Good experience in Client Server development. Familiar with VISA protocol for programming of Measurement Equipment Good experience with MSWindows Win7 and MSOffice Tools, MSOutlook, etc. Fluency English, German would be appreciated. Job description For Termas longterm customer, the European Southern Observatory ESO, an international astronomical institute based in Garching close to Munich, we are currently looking for an experienced Software Engineer to support the ALMA Computing Team within the European ALMA Support Centre in JAVA software development. The Atacama Large Millimetersubmillimeter Array ALMA, an international partnership of Europe, North America and East Asia in cooperation with the Republic of Chile, is one of the largest astronomical observatories in existence. ALMA is a single telescope of revolutionary design, composed of 66 high precision antennas located on the Chajnantor plateau, at 5000 meters altitude in northern Chile. All antennas are now at the ALMA site and the observatory is transitioning towards fullscale science operations. Responsibilities We seek an experienced minimum 3 years software engineer to work on the full software development life cycle of JAVA applications JAVA webbased applications JavaScript singlepage applications Candidate selection will be driven by software skills, domain knowledge and ability to function in a scientific environment. Fulltime position Start July 2016 Based at ESOs facilities in Garching Munich, Germany, but occasional short trips to the observatory in Chile and other partnership locations 12 weeks are necessary. Qualifications Competencies Essential skills and experience University degree, in the domain of Computer Science, Astronomy, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent Minimum of 3 years professional experience in software development.
