Do you have what it takes to manage a small team processing Level 0Level 1 data gathered by our satellites? You will have extensive knowledge of instrument data processing, including Image Navigation and Registration INR, radiometric correction and calibration algorithms, gained in an operational Space environment. You will manage a small team ensuring that our data processing operations are coordinated to meet our current and future needs. You need to be comfortable validating complex data and using UNIXLINUX in a fast paced environment. As you will be involved in producing and updating procedures and guidance, you need to be able to write concise and focused technical reports. We want you to come and join our team that will shape the requirements for the data processing chain for the JasonCSSentinal6 satellite programme. You will design, develop and upgrade our payload data processing systems, following rigorous verification and validation techniques. Performance testing will be required on our Level 1 and 2 products along with identifying ways to harmonise our developments across all our satellite systems. With your expertise of understanding the full development lifecycle of the processing chain, you will contribute to transitioning our enhancements into operations. You will use your experience of the design and development phases of Data Processing Systems to coordinate our activities and to ensure that we prioritise our resources and record outcomes in line with European standards. You need to be comfortable managing complex tasks autonomously, using your strong project management skills to ensure that resources are used effectively. You will use your interpersonal and communication skills to explain complex ideas and solutions in a matrix environment, working with both our inhouse teams and partners. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Onboard Payload Data Processing Engineer in the OnBoard Payload Data Processing Section, Data Systems Microelectronics Division of the Electrical Engineering Department, Directorate of Technical and Quality Management. The OnBoard Payload Data Processing Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research RD in the field of onboard payload data acquisition, handling, processing and storage. This domain covers the functions between the signal acquisition sensor and the modulator for the data transmission, including, but not limited to, data acquisition chains, data processing units, instrument controllers, mass memories and high speed networks for data transmission and command and control. Duties Reporting to the Head of the Section and within the technical fields described above, the main tasks and responsibilities of the post holder will include providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of onboard payload data acquisition, handling and processing, throughout all project phases participating in project reviews and evaluations of procurement proposals identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agencys technology programmes defining, initiating and managing RD activities covering both long and shortterm needs fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, placing emphasis on innovative concepts, cuttingedge technologies and system architectures defining data handling, storage and processing system architectures, optimising highaccuracy as well as highspeed data acquisition chains up to and including their validation in a laboratory environment monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining stateoftheart expertise contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.
