Ajilon Technology Aerospace is looking for a Materials Engineer Research and Development EngineerE3 for an opportunity at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands Specific tasks to be performed Critical and constant review and assessment of the current European Research and Technology landscape with particular focus on metallic materials as well as structural ceramics and glasses and related manufacturing processes and coating systems. Review and Approval of ESA Programme Materials, Mechanical Parts and Processes Lists in the frame of the Materials and Processes Review Board. Perform tasks related to the metallurgical assessment of materials in pristine and processed conditions, including metallurgical laboratory evaluations covering for example mechanical, corrosion and thermal testing, among others, failure investigations and drafting of relevant reports. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Higher University degree or equivalent qualification in Materials Science and significant practical experience in an aerospace or related industry. A Ph. D. in one of the Materials Science disciplines is considered an asset. Strong experience in the RD area and technology development in the field of metallic materials and related manufacturing processes. Knowledge of ProgrammeProject management and control technique, method and tools. Demonstrated ability to analyse and summarise complex information, capability of identifying priority actions and handle high workload. Capability to work independently and have confidence to deal directly with customers, in person or by telephone, and to interface with ESA staff in high level positions. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. Tasks and Responsibilities The following activites will apply To set up and operate equipment devoted to the assessment of the effects of contamination on space hardware and its causes. This requires the use of laboratory equipment consisting mainly of advanced vacuum systems and associated measuring devices such as mass spectrometers, infrared spectrometers, etc To set up and operate the microbalance systems to determine the outgassing properties of materials socalled VBQC systems Performance of tasks related to the assessment of particulate contamination either airborne or in fluids using the Particle Fall Out PFO method, automatic particle counting, or other adhoc test methods To develop new test methods and procedures related to chemical analyses in the field of offgassing and outgassing and contamination engineering. This includes GPC, GCMS, LCMS, HPLC, IR spectroscopy Modification of testing and analysis facilities and instruments as required for ongoing and future ESA missions Installation and subsequent analysis of contamination sensors placed within the environmental chambers of the inhouse parent sectiondivision as well as external facilities.
