Space Applications Services performs space systems engineering, software engineering and operations engineering, and build flight systems for the European Space Agency, National Space Agencies and the space industry. We are involved in international unmanned and manned spacecraft programmes. We require additional qualified staff wishing to work in adynamic international environment, for the following immediately available position ISS Operator and Operations Engineer OPSSAJOB002 Tasks and Responsibilities To be a member of a team of operators flight controllers at the Belgian User Support and Operations Centre B.USOC in Brussels Uccle, Belgium. B.USOC is a mission control centrefrom where scientific instruments onboard the International Space Station ISS are monitoredand controlled, and science data received and processed, intermittently operating in shifts. The assignment includes the preparation of the operations surrounding scientific experiment execution on payloads onboard the ISS developing and documenting operations concepts, operations procedures for ground and crew, and various related operations products. The work includes work on ground models of the involved payloads. And, not least, during execution of the scientific experiments, the team is staffing the control centre in shifts and is in charge of operating the relevant payloads as part of the ISS ground operations network. All the work is done in close collaboration with various engineering, operations and science teams throughout Europe, involving travel from time to time, mainly in Europe. The assignment involves attending training courses and workshops related to the USOC systems, payloads and the ISS subsystems. Operations simulations are also regularly organized to train the Operators for their tasks, to maintain proficiency, and to enhance teamwork skills. Qualifications and Experience The candidates should hold a degree in a relevant discipline engineering, sciences, etc. Some previous working experience is considered an advantage, but is not mandatory. The following experience and qualifications are relevant for the position polyvalent, stressresistant and problemsolving attitude teamplayer with selfmotivation and initiativetaking mindset excellent communications skills in English spoken, written experience with operations andor operations engineering familiar with Linux platforms, networks and computers in general experience in documentation andor procedure writing in English. Candidates shall agree with working in shifts and be oncall on a regular, though not constant basis. It is hence recommended that the applicants residence is in oneway commuting timeless than 1 hour from the location of the operations execution, the B.USOC in Uccle, Brussels. Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support within the Human Spaceflight and Operations Directorate DHSO supporting the ISS. Overview The post holder will report to the head of the Robotics and Future Projects office, in the Directorate of the Human Spaceflight and Operations. The duties of this post will include Operations engineering for the European Robotic Arm and Multipurpose End To End Robotics Operations Network Meteron projects, and for future projects such as technology demonstrations on ISS Liaise with EAC, GCTC and RSC Energia for instructor and crew training issues, including maintenance of the ERA Astronaut Training Database ATD Software management andor rapid software prototyping for the projects in the office Logistics organisation for ERA integration and launch campaign, Meteron experiments and test campaigns in analogue sites field tests. Support the development of specific qualification andor ISS flight demonstrations of technology items needed for human exploration. Performance of system definition studies for future human exploration developments. Support the Office and Division in other tasks as required. Specific qualification requirements University degree preferably Masters in Engineering or equivalent. A minimum of 2 years professional experience in space segment operations post Degree. Have robotics engineering knowledge. Have system and software engineering experience. You must be able to work and communicate effectively in English. Be able to work independently and also work with colleagues within a team. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Aurora will validate the Degree with the issuing University and provide evidence to ESA. Prior to issuing a letter of employment the applicant shall provide to Aurora a recent official document declaring that they are of good conduct from the country where currently resident. Location The work will be performed at the European Space Technology and Research Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands. Travel is required including to Russia so ability to obtain a Russian VISA is also required. Contract The selected candidate will receive good remuneration. Will be registered for both social security and tax in the Netherlands. The standard working hours are 40 per week. There are 12 public holidays and an additional 29 annual days holiday. Training to improve efficiency and provide strength for future career are of course included. Aurora assist with relocation both with support and financially.
