JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities Duties Tasks The Consultant will be a member of the Altimetry team in the Marine Applications section of the Remote Sensing and Products division. The tasks of the Altimeter Products Expert will typically include Supporting the transition of Jason3 and Sentinel3A from the commissioning to routine operations phase o Contribution to altimetry calval and quality control activities o Analysis and correction of anomalies in the altimeter processing chains Supporting the commissioning and calval of Sentinel3B Specification and proto typing of evolutions of the altimeter processing chains Contributing to operational processor operation and maintenance activities Specification, implementation and evolution of operational quality monitoring tools Specification, implementation and evolution of product performance monitoring and reporting tools Maintenance and evolution of preprocessing and postprocessing elements. The tasks of the Consultant will be mainly carried out at the EUMETSAT HQ in Darmstadt with frequent interactions with EUMETSAT partners. Travel within Europe will be necessary to follow the Copernicus activities. Qualifications University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline Required knowledge The Consultant shall have, as a prerequisite a demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and operation of altimeter products processing systems. This experience shall include at least five years experience in algorithm development for operational Earth Observation missions experience in operational scientific data processing implementations. Experience with large, complex processing systems with stringent timeliness and availability requirements would be an advantage experience in scientific coding on Unixbased platforms inC, C, or Fortran detailed knowledge of established altimeters, e.g. ERS112 RA, Envisat RA2, CryoSat SIRAL, SARALAltiKa, Jason12, etc. knowledge of DelayDoppler I Synthetic Aperture Radar altimetry techniques would be an advantage experience in processing, analysis, and calval of altimeter data would be an advantage experience in interfacing with scientific organisations and user communities would be an advantage. The position requires excellent interpersonal, communication and reporting skills, combined with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. TASKS Taking charge and full responsibility of infrastructure projects assigned to him by the Technical Infrastructure Manager from the infrastructure project portfolio. Preparing design drawings using Visio for the projects mentioned above. Perform handson tasks such as server, workstation, communication and video equipment installation for existing and new operational programmes and moving material out and into the Infrastructure storage areas. Outside peak periods when external resources are not available the Infrastructure Engineer is required to carry out additional hands on tasks such as rack assembly, patch cable installation, assisting in power box installation Perform other tasks as directed by the IME CA Manager. SKILLS The candidate shall have the following educational background and 5 to 10 years overall working experience and 3 to 5 years specific experience in the areas mentioned bellow Bachelor degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent. Familiarity with data center infrastructure elements power, cooling, space management, racks, cabling and patching copper and fiber. Familiarity with data center operations procedures access, security, maintenance windows, mission critical processes, etc. Experience in coordinating simple projects 510 resources, project budget order of magnitude up to 20K EUR. Good communications skills with external and internal resources and stakeholders. Business acumen to identify financially viable and sustainable technical solutions. User experience related to some current ERP or workflow management system such as SAP, Oracle, Siebel or Remedy.
